View Full Version : sights for DE 44
I ordered a set of houge grips for my DE due to a post on this site. Now I am wondering which sights I can buy for my DE.
??? Is the only place to order sighs for a DE at the magnumreseach website.
?? Anyone have a scope on their DE, does this take the place of a good set of sights or just add to them.

MR is the primary source for sights. What kind do you want?
I have tried just about every electronic sight which will fit as well as several magnifying optics. What are you going to use yours for?
I'm not sure. I will probably get some adjustable sites off the DE website for starters.
Seems like I'm talking to the right guy, with all you experience in DE sight systems. The DE site has some scope rings that allow you to still see your iron sights, but my ? to you is what do you think about scopes on my DE. I tried and electronic Dot but It did not seem to stay sighted in, the bullets waivered a bit. To much recoil for a red Dot? Or mabey the cheap red dot I bought was faulty ($70).
I plan to hunt deer with it in ND. My son & I are going to have a pistol competition in deer hunting later this year. My primary will be the DE with ?? sights, and a G20 w/ 6inch LW as a backup.
Any recommendations on sights will be greatly aprecitiated.
P.s. I read the manual on how to change the grips on the DE since I ordered new houge grips, but I cannot seem to remove the originals, any help would be great.

Does this pistol have the built in dovetails?
If not you will need a railed mount. The see-through rings don't work without the slide cuts. Even if your pistol does have the cuts, I would suggest that you get the railed mount anyway. It makes for a more flexible platform. The railed mount also has a "tail" which deflects brass away from your scope. This is a necessity if you don't want to get your scope dinged up. I feel that the DE rings are worthless. I have a few sets around here somewhere gathering dust. They are better than nothing, but for a few dollars more you can have something that really works.
Do you have more than one barrel?
The railed mount does away with the front sight (you must remove it to install the mount). Unless you have another barrel save your money and stick with the stock sights.
Scopes: I suggest a fixed 2x tube type for hunting. Unless you are a very experienced handgun hunter the higher magnification scopes will just magnify your flaws.
Red Dots: I recommend the Bushnell XLP or Leupold Gilmore LG-35...the LG-1 model is also a good choice. With the railed mount you will have a better platform for your current red dot (read as things will tighten up), and give you time to save up for something better.
Your red-dot: Most red-dots are rated for .357 Mag recoil, not .44; FWIW that is revolver recoil, a DE's recoil is softer. Recoil rating may be part of your problem. Mounting is probably the other.
I've found that I prefer to hunt my DE with a scope and plink with a red-dot. In regards to my opinion on scoped DEs...I have the 3 barrel kit. The only barrel that isn't scoped is the 50AE. If that tells you anything...
Hope this helps.
I just bought it new, so it does have dove groves. No I don't have any other barrels but I would like one. They seem very expensive however.
Where should I go to by that rail you were speaking of. I will take your advice and get a red dot for plinking and a 2x for hunting.

Here (http://www.magnumresearch.com/Expand.asp?ProductCode=DEP351B) for black and here (http://www.magnumresearch.com/Expand.asp?ProductCode=DEP351S) for silver. Sometimes you can find them cheaper on Ebay, but not that much cheaper.
The barrels are expensive. They cost about as much as a used GLOCK. However, the recoil of 357 out of the Desert Eagle feels like 9mm out of a G34.
Use the disassembly tool to push in the pin on the bottom of the frame (look at the magwell near the rear, where most pistols have a lanyard loop). It's harder than you think it should be.
Skeezer, check your PM. ALSO--->When you push the end of the disassembly tool into the hole you gotta push it in hard and hold it as far in as possible. Spread the front of the grips and rock them back and forth, pulling them rearwards.(THIS IS A TWO PERSON JOB !!)
Went to the MR/DE website and saw that the grips that I have are the DEP820(no finger grooves)....ALSO....the sights that I have are the DEP 300>Milletsights,orange front, white rear. These sights are very easy to see. The orange is VERY orange. They are also EXTREMELY ajustable for use with different bullet weights. Would reccommend them.
Would respectfully suggest no glass. At least at first.
I do not feel that the DE's are ment to be scoped. I know that the newer ones are dovetailed and slotted and all. The older models were not, mine is not. It's kinda like a late night after thought. Same as the Ruger Mini-14 Ranch. And we all know how they shoot.
IMO the DE is tough on scopes of any kind. No matter how mounted.(that's if you can keep them on the weapon)Yeah, the DE's are gas operated...BUT...what about the return recoil.
Try this ---> with and empty weapon, lock the slide to the rear, get into your "best" two handed shooting position, have someone tap the slide stop down with a unmarring hammer(gently please),expierance the return recoil from them big ol' double-double springs. Most people are amazed. Yeah,I know what your thinking,it should be somewhat gentler since the slide is strippin' a rd from the top of the loaded mag. Maybe "somewhat", but not much.
To me a DE is made/designed for close in "work".50yds or so.If I wanted a medium range pistol,I would pick up a 7.5" bbl revo. Long range,a T/C with scope. In fact I feel that the after market 10" bbls would give the DE all the range that the bullet could handle(sight radius and all). I know that they are expensive, but so are the scope mounts, rings, and a quality scope.
What say ye ???

Don't buy cheap optics. Install the optics you chose well.
I use loc-tite (gun-tite) on the screws for my mounts. If I'm mounting a tube I run a small bead (needle thin) of silicone around the tube. This beds the tube into the mounts.
I had a Nikon scope that survived about 300 rounds of 454 Casull and countless rounds of 45LC from my old Ruger SRH. I don't have either anymore..sadly.
As for distance...personally I wouldn't try to take game beyond 100yrds, but I have mainly hunted with pistol or shotgun most of my life. Punchin' paper is another story...If I miss the paper a little to the left there won't be an animal that I will need to trail for half the day. Or there won't be a wounded animal that I can't find suffering needlessly for who knows how long. That is a personal thing every hunter needs to decide for them self.
The production DE was designed to accept a scope mount from the start. At least that is what the people at MR claim, whether MKI, MKVII or MKXIX. All models have a dovetail. The XIX's is a standard size with cross slots, rather than proprietary.
If you don't want to use a holster, the Trijicon ACOG reflex sight works great - I've had one on for several years and it's been able to stand up to the battering. No batteries, no hassles.
Night shooting is a blast!
This solution is not for the faint of wallet, however.
