Polishing out a new barrel - The set up...

Hey guys, it looks like I'll finally be getting my new LoneWolf barrel for my G35. I'm getting a G24 .357 Sig Conversion barrel and dropping it in my 35. I'm also having 2 ports cut in the section of the barrel that will be sticking out of the slide as well (Plus a little laser ingraving to boot :) )

Anyway, my question is this: What type of polish is the most accepted for the purpose of polishing out a SS barrel? (I've heard and read refferences to "Fitz's" (sp?)... but I've not seen it localy)

Also, what speed is the best to polish something like this at? - I've got a 1/4 horse 110 motor that spins at 1725rpm's...will that work, or do I need something a bit slower?

I have all ready done a trigger job and polished out the feed ramp of my stock barrel.....for this I used my dremel tool and some Ryobi metal polish, and that worked out very good. But I feel that I need to use a larger polishing set up for something larger like the barrel - I was planning on setting up a 6 or 8 inch buffing wheel on my 1/4 hp motor.....

Any suggestions or tips on this process?

Werner, personally I'd stick to the Dremel. You would have more control that way. On a 6-8" wheel, I'd be afraid of getting hung up and having my new barrel launched across the room, plus, I think you would get a better detailed job with the Dremel. I have a variable speed Dremel and use a setting of 2 for polishing. Just my take on it.

I've done just about everything else with the dremel, but I though it might be easier to do the bulk of the barrel with a larger wheel... I still may have to do some of the tighter areas with the dremel either way.

On my SA 1911, I did the section of the barrel that shows inside the ejection port. I used the dremel on that, and while it turned out pretty good, it seems like you could tell where I started and stopped with my passes doing it that way.......and that was just a small section of the barrel

I may try both ways and see which I prefer and then report back here to you guys. :)
