View Full Version : Barrel for Reloads
I would like to know what is the best barrel for shooting reloaded ammo out of a stock G-30. I like to shoot reloads because they are cheaper.
Thanks

You have the answer in your G30--stock. I've shot mostly reloads through my May 1997 G30. I shoot only reloads in my stock G21.:)

If you want to shoot Lead, go with a KKM

Actually, Federal is the best buy, but Bar-Sto is the best barrel. If you shoot lead reloads, then you need an aftermarket barrel.
I mainly practice with reloads, though since I carry Federal +P I also run a clip of that through the gun once a week. All my target and competition shooting is with my 1911's, with lead reloads. If I shot my 30 in IDPA I would consider the extra barrel. As is, the factory barrel is fine. It took me a couple of range sessions, though, before I realized lead reloads don't work too well. Just reload hardball and you will be fine with the factory barrel.

I have a 1990 Glock 21 that has never had a round of FACTORY ammo. fired in it. The ONLY problem I had was when I shot CAST LEAD bullets in it. It took too much time to clean it. I now use PLATED bullets.
My Federal Arms barrels are just as accurate as my 6" hunting KKM barrel.
$69 versus $155.
Can buy two FA for one KKM.

Many excellent barrels to choose from...
In general, the Barsto and Jarvis barrels are the best. They are going to give you the tightest groupings, assuming that you do your part. Briley, KKM, and Olympic Arms are ever so slightly less accurate. For the most part, you probably wouldn't even notice any real difference.
Olympic Arms barrels seem to be the best bang for the buck, as their barrels are 114 bucks plus shipping, whereas KKM's start at 155, and the others are around 200 bucks.
Federal Arms barrels are decent for plinking purposes.

The FA barrels that I have purchased, i.e. 9mm, .40 S&W, and the .357 sig, are all excellent shooters. Very accurate if I do my part. For the money saved, you will not go wrong.
