First Milsurp Rifle - 91/30

I finally picked up a Mosin Nagant, Big 5 had them on sale for $75 so I figured now was the time.

The wood's got quite a few dings, and the finish is peeling in a couple places, but the bore is shiny and the rifling sharp and pronounced.

A couple questions:

What is the easiest way to get the wood cleaned up and looking a bit better?

I've heard that these rifles were intended to shoot the light ball ammo, should I stick to that or am I ok to try out the heavy ball varieties?

Are there any cool WWII era accessories I should get? I've got the sling that came from the importer and the ammo pouch, but I'd like to get a better sling and maybe a bandoleer.

Assuming there's no cosmoline on the stock, lacquer thinner will clean out all the oil, dirt, grime, etc. from the stock. It will lighten considerably once all this stuff is out. Then you can put on a number of coats of tung oil or BLO. Behr's tung oil finish is recommended on the C&r Rifle Stock Cleaning and Preservation Forum:
