Taurus and I got bitten by the bike itch and would like to ask other BoGs who are into mountain biking or Roadies where they get their gear.

I plan to pass by all terra later this afternoon to check out their lines of mtb's.

So maybe we can set-up a funride instead of a funshoot!

would highly recommend All Terra Bike Shop in Club 650 Libis. the owner, Edmund, is very helpful to bikers. he used to be the manager of Powerbikes Rockwell.

if you are a bit more adventurous, Kings in Quiapo (along Quezon Blvd. across Quipo Church) offers very low prices. the owner, Jane, used to be a roadie i think. magaling sa sales talk yan. (you'll know what i mean if you meet her.) usually mayroon silang valentine's day discount. :)

sa cartimar side, the only shops i trust are paulinas and velocity (including the one beside velocity the name of which i forget).

if i know what you intend to buy maybe we can narrow down the choices of shops. whole bike ba? parts only? accessories lang?

mark: yup, kilala ko si washington ng newton multisales. puro high end bikes nga meron siya. got some parts for my old roadie from him.

now, i'm looking for an MTB para maiba naman, but when i went to all terra kanina, sa mga road bikes talaga ako naglaway!

was able to look at some entry level bikes. Giant, KHS and Jamis. price range is from 11500-1500, which are reasonable compared to US msrp's.

ang ganda noong giant roadie going for 26k! tapos ganda ng mga giant tcr's! kaso out of my budget na! hiramin ko na lang yung mtb ni smbd or ni singlestacker! hahaha!

I'm in love w/ roadbikes now kasi they are fast
Closest thing to flying pag nasa open road and dito more on training and most of the guys here are intense
Kaso always looking at a guys @$$ in front of me sa ride has awakened some deep feelings inside of me.

If you look at cycling as an exercise , tatamarin lang kayo
Look at it as a hobby like ipsc meron group rides, pasyal , kwentuhan

Yep! I used to commute using my bike from my house in San Antonio Pasig to my office in makati. That was how I lost weight(from 200lbs -135 current weight). That's how I develop my asthma din. HEHEHE!

Now, as a resident in Sta Rosa, I frequent the Sabak Bike trail. Try it! It's really fun.

Makes sense, point and shoot mas madali, maliit at handy.

Doc, nakabili kasi ako ng velociy series ng Tamrac. Pwede shoulder or belt attachments. Naisip ko lang baka mey faster way to get the cam out from the bag. Hirap kasi nito dami'ng locks at zipper bago mailabas yung cam.

There have been reports of guys riding expensive mountain bikes being held up. Perhaps safety in numbers, perhaps a bigger more obvious target in numbers.

Doc EC,

MTB ako baliw dati before I ventured into practical shooting. I was a weekend warrior first then did some serious downhill riding until it finally hurts and dawned on me na I cannot keep up with the younger generation doing really great and crazy riding.

I even went into MTB business and Edmund of All Terra was a sort of minor partner then. Cartimar is still the place to go if you want value for money and wide variety of options. I still know these stores and if you are really serious let me know samahan taka.

I still have my bike and if you are all into it lets ride kita kits tayo sa CCP where we normally meet before.

arnoldb: i can't imagine you being at 200lbs. masarap talaga mag bike kaso bec. of the air we have here, magka copd ka lang!

mco: nakita ko yang tamrac na bag. maganda nga pwedeng over the shoulder and fanny pack carry. kelangan meron ka rin point and shoot for those quick snapshot moments!

Na-upgrade ko na rin siya to disc brakes( a must in trail biking and downhilling!). Hehehe!

mountain biking ang dati kong addiction.

i used to have 3 bikes, a downhill bike, a dual-suspension trail bike and an xc hardtail.

i was a mountainbiker for 7 years until i went back to shooting. i'm planning to get back on the saddle again. good timing dahil gunban.

arnold, kamusta mga trail sa santaro? samahan mo naman kaming mga newbie one time, maliligaw na ako dun, dami na raw bago. we used to ride Coffee Trail, Pinyahan, etc.

nagda-downhill din kami sa tagaytay dati, paborito ng grupo ko yung Pappy's Trail but we've also tried Ridge 2 and Ridge 3, Holey Trail, ang kung anu-ano pa dun. pero ngayon wala na ako dh bike, trail bike na lang.

doc e.c., kunin mo dual suspension trail bike with at least 4 inches of rear wheel travel, preferably 5in, at naka-stable platform shock. its the all-around, do-everything, the-one-bike-if-you-can-only-have-one-bike bike.

in my opinion, the best value for money brands are Giant and Jamis. they don't have the zoot value of an Ellsworth or a Turner but they can do pretty much the same things.

tulad ng shooting, wala sa pana, nasa indian. or as we like to say in biking, it's not the ride, it's the rider.

this was my downhill rig before. i sold it.

Sir Arnold: What days do you usually ride? We ride at least 3x a week at Sta Rosa, either Tue, Thu, Sat or Sun. Favorite namin ngayon is to ride the reverse Palace route from Paseo to Palace via Sta Elena and Canlubang then back thru Aling Pinay's lugawan then down thru either Cardiac Hill or Upak trail.

Anyone who wants to join us can just PM or text me 0919-205-7257. I even have a couple of extra bikes I can lend to those who want to try it pero for 5'8" and below lang height kasi maliit mga bike. Hehe! Maybe we can organize a BOG fun ride.

Those interested, we will be opening a new bikeshop: Gran Trail Cycles located at Westgate Alabang sometime next month. I'll be the bike mechanic. Hehe!

Doc, text mo ko kung balak mo magbuo ng bike or want a buy a built one. I have budget bikes which cost P11-23k. Even have a dual suspension 5in travel bike selling for P30k with SRAM X7 drivetrain and Hayes brakes. Sulit na talaga. And of course, there are still the 2nd hand bikes and parts which you can look at and you can really save a lot. Got a P20k frame for just P8k. ;)

A U.S. site, but..

MTB Review
www.mtbreview.com
MTB Review, one of ConsumerReview's flagship sites, is focused on mountain biking. You'll find helpful reviews, written by bike fanatics, of products and trails. Thinking about purchasing a Bianchi Ibex? One reviewer's comment: it's "Super rigid when pedaling uphill and forgiving when hitting a bump. I like how it acts like a hardtail, but still has that rear travel when you need it." Read about upcoming races or browse the photo gallery of trials, bikes, stunts and crashes. The site's message boards discus topics ranging from determining the correct seat angle to off-bike training.

BEST: Reviews of some 7,000 trails, with explicit directions and recommendations.
WORST: Lots of product hawking.
