I'm going over a rifle for a friend.
It's a Sears Ted Williams Model 100 30-30 (aka Winchester 94)
Now I usually stay away from barrel removal being the back yard gunsmith that I am, however I want to save my friend a few bucks and do as much of the work my self. The alternative being drive 80 miles to the nearest lisenced gunsmith and then payin him to remove the barrel, come home, refinish it then drive back to have it put back on... So question is what is the best way to remove a barrel from the action without damaging anything?
I have a mounted vise, and various mediums to protect the metal from the vise. Should I make a wood jig or something, also these are right hand thread right?
Also whats the best way to remove the original bluing? chemical, abrasive, or other???
I plan on nickel plating the barrel/tube and have a black phosphate finish on the reciever/bands/sights, with the screws/bolt/lever/hammer in nickel also.
I was looking into purchasing these kits, any comments on whether or not they will work for what I want would be great. Or if there are cheaper or better suited do it yourself kits, I am planning on refinishing a few rifles.

Also when I am refinishing do I need to cover the threads or the barrel interior or will nickel or black phosphate finishing have no ill effect to either of these areas? I'm sure it will tell me in the instructions, but I am curious.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks
