SAN FRANCISCO - a group of firearm enthusiasts, publishers, manufacturers, and associations sued Contra Costa County in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. The lawsuit challenges the County's ban on the sale, gifting, transferring, offering for sale and displaying for sale of .50 caliber rifles. Attorney Chuck Michel predicted that the court case would have statewide implications and will "put a lid back on local authorities' ability to regulate."
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit, California Side by Side Society, California Association of Firearms Retailers, Fifty Caliber Shooters Association, Double Gun Journal, Sports Afield, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, California Rifle and Pistol Association and Eric Williams argue that Contra Costa's ordinance violates the U.S. Constitution, the state Constitution and California state law.
