View Full Version : Glock 35 for duty
hey all,
My partner and I recently shot a 35 and xd-tac .45 at a range and fell in love with the 35. We are both glock dorks and he is an armorer. We thought the xd was nice, but hated the creepy trigger and long reset.
Anyway, we just bought two of them with leather and qualified with them. We wanted green, but 6-9 month wait and the store we were at had 3 in stock in black,.....so we went with the black.
Anyone out there carry one on duty?
The box said 5LB trigger. No biggie, but we really liked the demo we shot with the 3.5LB trigger. The dilema is, is there any liability to switching out the connector and using the 3.5 for duty? Nothing in our general orders forbids it. We already switched out the extended mag release to standard one for future holster issues.
Regardless, this is a sweet shooting pistola. Lots of looks from other departments at the rapid deployment class yesterday.

Congrats. There shouldn't be any problem switching it to 3.5lbs, especially if you, the shooter prefers that. Grab a 3.5lb. connector and NY1 trigger spring.
As you're training with it, practice defensive tactics with a gun that has a longer slide, such as the G35. The BG may get a better grip with it and fight you for it. That's where training comes to play.
The G35 is an excellent weapon.

my finger doesn't touch the trigger until I intend on destroying the target. if you're in a duty shoot their lawyer will say you had an itchy trigger finger anyway. you can at least tesitify that if you had a 10, 30, 300 pound trigger you were gonna shoot them anyway.

Escondido PD in San Diego uses them as their duty issue weapon, great choice, great weapon. You will truely enjoy it.

There some departments around that issue them for standard use, and I know of a few places that issue a longslide model for SWAT members.
As for the connector, I think the modification issue gets over hyped as a liability. As long as you aren't violating policy then it shouldn't be a big deal. The only issue that I could see with is that if Glock didn't back you civilly due to your modding the pistol.
Did you get this one as a blue label? Is that why it came with a standard connector instead of a minus?
Also practice drawing from the holster a lot!
As if you are used to a shorter barrel, the 35's may catch on your holster at first.

That is exactly what I am experiencing with my G35, after years of drawing with my G23.
As for the original question, there are lots of agencies around the country that issue or option the longslides to their unis and tac/special op guys.

I know of at least one dept. here locally that uses the G35 as a issue weapon. I wish I could carry mine. If you only switch the trigger bar your pull weight should only be 4.5lbs. To attain the 3.5 you will have to switch out the trigger spring also (not 100% about the name, but someone on here should be able to give a solid answer.). think the 4.5 is plenty for a duty trigger.

The Kentucky State Police issue G35's, with the G27 as BUG. I love mine, very easy to shoot.

Unfortunately my department issues the SIG P229R with the DAK trigger for duty use. My back up is a G26. My off duty is a G26 99% of the time but in the winter when a light jacket is required I carry my G35. Enjoy the pic.
