I am going to be getting my CCW permit soon. I would like some input regarding how is best to carry--holster or purse for a G23. If holster.... which type for approx. 5'8"-130lbs woman, and how to carry (position).
Mmmm....difficult question. Couple of reasons: your physical size and the size of the gun you wish to carry.
I favor on body carry. My concern is that your physical shape (tall, slender) will make it difficult to conceal a G23. That said, it may be that purse carry would be more appropriate.
However, the idea of on body carry should not be discarded. It would be worth your time (and money, as gun purses are $$$$) to check out a variety of holsters. 'Course, you'll have to decide for IWB or OWB at that point.
Best of luck with whichever you decide.

I carry a G23 although I am not 5'8" and 130 lbs. :)
I use a Galco concealable (I think it is). Sometimes I will opt for purse carry but normally I don't even carry a purse. I also use a day planner occasionally. You will find your needs will change based on the style of dress: jeans vs. a dress.
How you dress will play a big part in it. For example, I am mainly jeans and teeshirts but during the winter, sweaters are great at hiding what a teeshirt won't. Dressier clothes and twin sets may help or hinder. Also, white shirts aren't too camouflaging while black and patterns can be. It is a lot of trial and error and adjusting the holster by a tad until you get it just like *you* like. Just because I like 4:30-5 o'clock doesn't mean that is going to work for you.
Good luck! :)
Feel free to ask more questions and I (and the other ladies, and the few guys that venture by) will try to give more not-so-dumb answers
All possibilities seem to have their benefits and their downsides. And DON'T listen to men who try to foist their opinions on you. Not all of us are willing to forgo dresses and wear BDUs all the time
I don't have a California permit, but do have permits valid in a number of other states.
I personally don't seem interested in getting pants or a skirt two inches larger around the waist to accommodate an IWB holster... although I sometimes use an IWB holster at about 4 o'clock. Or SOB if I'm wearing a jacket and am not planning on driving a lot. (Yes, don't let somebody push you over on your SOB gun and break your spine.)
I've tried thigh holsters, but even a SIG P232 seems too large for that.
I have a Smart Carry (http://www.smartcarry.com/), which works well with a loose skirt, depending on the drape of the fabric.
But mostly I use a purse with a dedicated compartment/holster. You can sometimes get a reasonable deal on a closeout from Coronado (http://www.coronadoleather.com/). The Concealment Shop (http://www.theconcealmentshop.com/) has some options. Galco (http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterP3.asp?ProductID=2913&CatalogID=150) has some very nice looking options, but out of my price range.
