Has anyone used spray paint on their firearms? Is Duracoat that much better?
I have seen spray paint come out great, I have never done it, but see its merrits...
personally i Duracoat, but when its gone, spray paint may be tried...
Spray paint is not as durable or solvent resistant as duracoat. For stocks and such, spray paint may be the better choice, particularly if given a clear epoxy finish over it. For metal parts that are subject to finish wear, duracoat will give better results.
Spray paint has the advantage of being fairly easy to remove with solvents so it gives you the option of easily custom coloring or recoloring a hunting rifle to match the foliage in the area you going to be in.

This is my first post, so here goes....I have sprayed my guns with paint, and I also do duracoat. Duracoat is much better in my opinion. I have two older Glocks that I did, and a few long guns. All turned out very nicely. Stuff dries hard, and is very difficult to scratch if you install properly. You can try it yourself for a about fifty dollars. I think you will like the results.
I had a gun duracoat and it came up with scratches on the mzl end from lite usage it was cured and waited over 3 weeks prior to me taking out to the range. I wasn't all that 100% impress as of yet, but heck it costed me $48.00 plus taxes todo one contender bbl. Still waiting to try it out in the field tho. It defenitely beats a blued shiny bbl.
One other item I'm looking at is the ceracokt coating, I'm planning on getting an action coat this way to see what happens. Will post feedback once it's been done.
Should be more durable than duracoat.

I've been very happy with Duracoat and the finish seems very scratch resistant once cured. Chemicals shouldn't affect it once cured either, but my guess is that aircraft paint remover may take it off. I'm going to spray some stuff next time I mix up a batch to test it. If it does take it off I can paint my guns different colors every couple of months.
