Hi gang - A friend of mine just inherited a Colt (Peacemaker, I think), He has the patent dates and serial number. Is there someplace to look up or request the history on it? Or is there a Colt expert in our midst that might be able to shed some light on this particular gun?

It appears that this was originally new in the 1870's. Trying to find the history on it.

Thanks!

Bob

i can date it for you. just change the last two numbers in the serial to xx. i can help a little as i have a few oldies and a soft spot for them and their history. if its indeed early it will have the patent dates on two lines instead of three. if its a 44 it should have a little 44 on the trigger guard and frontier six shooter on the barrel. a pic would help. you can also get a letter from colt that will tell when it was made , how it was originally configured and who it was sent to. its a little pricey at 150 but if the gun is all original its worth it.

Colt will do it for you costs around $75 bucks and you get a nice historical document back.
