I may be spending a couple or three months down there soon working with a seismic survey crew before long if a job I'm bid on comes through. I've been into Grande Isle and Fourchon from offshore a few times many years ago and made a drive down there from New Orleans once about five years ago. I know about the speed traps and Wally World in Golden Meadow. If this goes down I'll need a hotel or other place to stay with high speed internet. Looking for some tips for getting along well with people, special places and events, surviving the skeeters and other critters, etc.

NOLACOP,

It's certainly not paradise but it beats the north slope in the dead of winter, West Africa, and running operations from a British controlled office in the Gunspoint area in Houston which I'm now doing. On the other hand I've been there but never stayed there long so you could be right. I'm just gathering information now so you are welcome to elaborate on why you said that.

Lafourche predominately revolves around the offshore industry. Lots of rough characters down that way and not much of a social atmosphere. Im sure some Lafourche residents are gonna jump my butt, but i call it how i see it. The city of Thibodaux, which encompasses a university, is your best bet for socializing (women) in Lafourche. They have a nice outdoor range though.

Try the Daiquiri shop on HWY 1 or the truck stop/casino on 308 (wear a condom or two and don't tell them your phone number). When I used to work out of Port Fourchon, Houma was the best place to get some pu.....Meet some nice women. only a 30 min drive up HWY 24.
