View Full Version : For you AK gu ru.
This will be my first AK, I have couple of AR's and a whole bunch of pistols and shotguns and would like to add an AK to the bunch.
I'm looking at getting an AK Yugo M70 under folder with wood furnitures but there are so many choices out there and prices are differently.
What are the different between Century, Landcaster and Vector?. Which one is better in overall?. (keep the price under $600 or the wife will gets involve  .)
TIA.

For the price the M70AB2 underfolder is the best buy out there now. Buy one, take care of it, and you can sell it at a profit.

They all use the same NDS/DCI receiver. The Century has a new US made barrel. That may make a big difference. The Yugoslavian barrels are also non chrome lined and usually have a lot of wear. There are some new Yugo AK barrels in the country but I don't know any commercial AK's using them.
The Yugoslavian M70AB2 under-folder offered by Century Arms is built from good condition Yugo kits on a 1mm DCI stamped receiver. As the Yugoslavian 7.62X39 ammo is highly corrosive, expect some pitting on the gas piston, bolt & bolt carrier. The barrel is U.S. made and non-chrome lined. The Yugo AK has a unique barrel trunnion, hence the bulge at the front of the receiver to accomodate it. The build quality of these rifles is excellent, though I am disappointed they only use a single hook trigger. They come with black synthetic handguards, or wood handguards for a slightly higher price. Finish is a medium gray phosphate (parkerizing). They're definitely one of the better deals out there right now, and they are a very beefy RPK style AK.
Century Arms also offers a Romanian under-folder built from new Romanian part kits.
The under-folders from Vector I've seen also feature the 1mm DCI stamped receiver, but they are built from standard AKM style Polish parts kits. They have the original chrome lined barrel and also feature a single hook trigger. Finish varies from light to dark gray phosphate. They include a 5 year warranty.
Lancaster under-folders are also built from standard AKM Polish parts kits on both 1.6mm and 1mm NDS/DCI stamped receivers. The fit & finish is very good and they feature a Gun-Kote finish on top of phosphate. They have a lifetime warranty. They are very similar to Arsenal brand Polish under-folders.
The most bang for your buck out there right now are the two rifles from Century (Yugo M70AB2 and Romanian GP-WASR-10UF).

I believe the Century M70AB2's are made with the 1.6mm receiver.

You are right. The Century M70's are built on 1.6MM DCI receivers.

So far, I have been rather impressed with Century's Yugo AK's. The Dan Coonan receiver is of excellent quality in my opinion. The build quality on the rifles with wood furniture has been very good.
I haven't had a chance to inspect any of their Yugo's with synthetic furniture. I would think the introduction of synthetic furniture is a pretty good sign they are running out of Yugo parts and will probably start using whatever they have on hand. Not a big deal, but a standard AKM selector lever gets in the way of the folding stock. Still, the Yugo AK is built like a tank and is an excellent value in my opinion.
I had the chance to fire a Century Yugo back before Christmas. Good solid rifle with great function and a decent finish.
The 1.6mm receiver really makes the rifle feel substantial.
Yugo's are very well put together firearms.
BUT
The Polish UF is in your price range.
I know there are a lot less of them then Yugo's.
Some time down the road that will lead to a higher return on your money.
I'm pretty sure ORF has them in stock, think Atlantic does as well.
Let us know what you get.

Mine does anyway.
