I've got a GP WASR 10 from CIA, and it has a threaded muzzle with a non-slanted muzzlebreak on it, and its spot welded in one place. My question is, can I hacksaw through that and put a different muzzlebreak or flash hider on it? Legally of course. And can I legally hacksaw the cover thingy off to just clean the threads? I;ve got a slanted muzzlebreak I ordered a while ago, but have been hesitant to put it on of 922R reasons. And it does accept hi cap mags and has been bayonet-neutured if that makes any difference. Thanks

Hey Lugi long time no talk buddy, but no I'm sure its welded, the shabby spot weld is very noticeable. I went ahead and hacksawed it, figure they cant send me to Sing-Sing just for that! lol

Oh yea it comes off fine, and I cleaned it, but I really want to know if I can legally put this slant break on. I'm not sure if its USA made or not though...

I think you need to put on a U.S break , but it should have been 922R from the get !!!

A GP WASR-10 is a Romanian semi-automatic AKM (aka AK-47) clone. This version of the rifle has a pistol grip and can accept Hi-capacity magazines because the receiver was milled out. The end of the barrel has threads, a bayonet lug, and comes with a muzzle brake. It uses the standard AK-47 7.62*39 cartridge. The fit and finish of this rifle is average; this rifle has wood similar to the SAR and some minor machining marks. The glaring disadvantage of this rifle is some machining burrs on the mag-well should be removed with a file because it causes some magazines to fit tightly. Also this rifle lacks the dimples for to keep the Hi-capacity magazines from wobbling side to side, and instead have plates welding inside the receiver. This rifle has 10 Imported parts and 5 US parts. The advantages of this rifle are its reliability, cheap ammo, large selection of replacement parts, accepts single and double stack magazines, comes with a threaded barrel, and now has a bayonet lug. This is a good starter AK and is great if you cannot find a SAR-1, want to save some money, or want an AK that accepts both single and double stack magazines with all the post AW ban features.

I don't know even if I'm helping you !!!

I think it probably has to do with NY still have the AWB, I'll have to look into the law book that came with my C&R FFL. I think it was something like it was an assault weapon if it took hi cap mags, had a folding stock, bayonet lug, and had a flash hider. To be legal in NY it had to have only one or two of these features or something like that, I'm not sure. I do know that folding stocks here in NY are almost nonexistent, at least in my neck of the woods.

I'm in NY as well. What ever you put on will have to be pined,
welded,or silver soidered. Get a US made brake first!!!!!

I trust your information, but would I enquire as to the source? And do you know any good sites/dealers that have a US made flash hider/muzzle break?

That is the one I have already but haven't attached. The gun has one of those push pins on it already, will that work or will I need to have it welded on along with the pin?

She will need to be welded or pined.
You can't have a PG,det.mag, and a threaded barrel in NY.
You must also have 6 US made parts on a gun with a threaded
barrel.
I'm an SAR guy. They had US made PG,FCG,and gas piston.
Only need 5 parts because the barrel was not threaded.
You need 6!! I think you might have "cut" off a US made brake!!
What kind of brake are you looking for?
No flash hiders in NY!!!!!!!

I think I misspoke, when I bought the gun, the threaded part of the barrel had just a threaded ring covering it, no slanted muzzle break. This was spot welded on. I cut through this weld. I purchased seperatly the slanted muzzle break I attatched in my previous post, which is apparently US made, can I put the slanted one on and weld it and be OK?

Heres a picture of someone's AK (Don't know whos) But it has the same muzzle device that mine came with.

As long as the slant brake is US made you are good to go!!!
I kind of like "blind pinning",then welding the pin.
But as long as she can't be removed your OK!!!!
Good luck on your gun. Post some pic's when your done.

Picture you Brake on the gun. Now you drill throuh the brake
into the barrel,@ half the thickness of the barrel. then
drive in a pin. Once the pin is in place, grind it flush and put
a small weld over it.
This is done on the underside of the barrel,6 O-clock.
You could always go to Homedepot and get some MAP gas
and some Silver solder. It's just as good for the "FEDS"!!!

I tried solder before with just regular electrical solder and an iron, but it popped off when I fired the first round out of the weapon lol, I'll have to find a machine shop or something and give the guy a twenty to throw a spot weld on it for me lol, that MAP gas and stuff sounds a littttle over my head...btw CnRNut where in NY are you?

It's what you need to silver solder. It burns at a much
higher temp then propane.

What tools and/or supplies do I need to do this?

Do you still have the original brake((threaded ring)? Does anyone know where I can get one. I dont like my slanted brake and only want something to protect the barrel crown.

You can do a couple things. There is a Bird Cage flash hider that is threaded to that particular pitch. Or you can simply put a thread protector on there (i.e. no suppressor just a ring to cover the threads). Now keep in mind that many other styles of flash suppressors will preclude you from being able to get a Bayonet on. But you can get one on with most thread protectors (and the original 45 slant brake). If thats important to you.

Ya I just want the shortest thing possible that protects the crown. I got a bayonet with mine, but it was the ugliest POS ever not that I would put one on regardless. Thanks.
