Remington 870 Trigger Question

I sent the trigger of my Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 ga to a gunsmith to have the creep removed and the let-off lightened to about 3 1/2 pounds. These seem pretty good now, but another problem has shown up.

Every so often, maybe once every 20 shots, I get a failure to fire when pulling the trigger. Jiggling the slide usually allows the gun to fire. I think what may be happening is the left connector is not always dropping into position on top of the action bar lock and the jiggling lets it drop in place. It may be getting hung up for some reason but I don't know enough to figure out why.

Anything I can do to fix this problem short of sending it back to the gunsmith who did the original trigger job?

Removing the creep is not a big deal if you know how to do it. Something is wrong, and you need to have a gunsmith make it right.

When I attended the 870 factory armorers class last year, they advised us that "trigger jobs" were a huge no-no. Granted this was an LEO class, but the mechanics of the trigger/carrier dog/hammer relationship is such that it makes trigger work very difficult.
The only fix for you now, is to buy a new trigger assembly (complete) and start over again. They are not that pricey, though.

Thanks. I replaced the sear spring and it is working fine now. Evidently the gunsmith had cut it too short in lightening the pull.

That would certainly cause the problem, alright. Glad you were able to diagnose it.
