i currently have a heavily modified vw gti turbo and love the thing but ever since driving my '97 supercharged grand prix i vowed to never own another naturally aspired vehicle. my vw is probably gonna have to be smogged this coming december and will not pass. im now looking at a mazda 3 turbo that puts down 260 horspower and 280 foot pounds of torque and am gonna test drive it in the next few days. just wondering if anyone else here is into these pocket rockets and what other alternatives do i have in the low 20,000 range. for 22k the mazda seems to be the best of the breed.

I love hot econocars, miss my Integra Type R frequently.

I test drove the Mazdaspeed3, and it was not nearly as fast as the mags made it out to be. Handled well enough for a front driver, but I'm forever owned by German rwd steering.

If you must have a new car in that range, the SRT4 can't be beat.

just picked up a mazdaspeed 3 yesterday trading in my CEL ridden vw 1.8T with 35500 miles for $8300. it rolls on 18's and a sub 6 second 14 flat @ the 1/4 mile car. the salesman saw the CEL after the deal was done and i told him with my poker face - it just came on, it wasn't on earlier, hmmmmm. if the vw wasnt due for a smog check this coming fall i would have kept it, this one is staying stock.....

I've got a 90 CRX DX with a ZC swapped in. Flowmaster exhaust with an opened up stock air box. Its got decent rims on it, but other than that it's stock. USPSA has been taking all of my money:supergrin: . It's not the fastest thing for sure, but going from 80 or so hp to 135 makes it a lot more fun to drive.

97guns, nice.

My brother keeps yacking on and on about wanting the Mazdaspeed 3. Unfortunately for him he has 2 kids and a house to pay for.

My dream car right now is not a hatch, but a Subie WRX STi Limted. I am loving the AWD on my Legacy GT right now, but wish it had a turbo.

What won't pass? Visual, OBD II, or sniffer? Learn what you need to do to pass then go from there. My WRX is pretty modded but will still pass smog.

There is going to be a rally race here this weekend with a lot of these cars in it. Here is a link to the web site:
http://www.rally-america.com/index.php
http://www.rally-america.com/story.php?article=181

They have been coming in all week with some famous names included. It will try to get my camera and get some pics tomorrow and Saturday. This has been going on here for years now and I enjoy seeing them. There is some opposition to the racing in the back roads.

you know nothing of swapped hondas don't you? and why is it everytime theres a post somewhere about sport compacts, some moron with v8 and a car that weighs 4000 lbs half the size of a school bus comes in and starts talking out his ass? this post has nothing to do with american muscle. so why participate? i love all cars, including your beloved detroit iron. i have no problems whatsoever with stangs and such. but i hate it when someone comes in here and bashes on somebody, especially when they havent a clue about what the car may run in the 1/4.

by the way the motor is totally stock besides intake and exhaust and the car runs 14.6 at 94. add a few parts for fuel enrichment and some boost and the car is in the 11's easy. for less than 10k. you were saying?

I've seen a tuned 4 banger eat a few American muscle cars for lunch!!! You may want to be careful what you say to some of these guys building the import cars. I was at the dragstrip a couple of years ago and saw several imports and domestic sport coupes run well over 100 MPH in the quarter mile! My new '06 Chevy Truck and my '97 RS Camaro won't even come close to that!

im liking it alot, so far i only have a couple hundered on the odo. and really havn't gotten on it too much but it does feel a bit snappier than the GTI. the handling is awesome in its stock form and blows away my dropped, sway bar'd, stress bar'd GTI in this department. no regrets thus far.

here's my girl.
'03 Audi allroad 2.7 twin turbo with a stage 3 APR kit. Although I haven't dynoed it since completion, the work I've had done should put out about 447bhp and 467lb-ft of QUATTRO power.

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p92/jtehan/carandbike003.jpg

it had weight against it at just over 4200#s and I haven't had it on the "strip", BUT as a stop light runner, it has taken on some impressive victorys.

She's my daily driver and I put about 1000-1200 miles a week on her. My buddys call it a soccer mom's car until they hear the turbos spool or watch me spank another buddy's mustang gt.

I'm guessing with 447bhp that I'm putting 400hp to the wheels (all four of them)which makes her about a 12.5 1/4mile daily driver, family car, utility vehicle, semi luxury car

I've been into the import show/race scene for about 10 years now.

I have an Eagle Talon, AWD drag car that is in 1 million pieces right now, but it went +130mph in the 1/4 mile last year. Also, my brother owns a 2000 Civic Si that has a Jackson Racing supercharger.

It seems that a lot of car guys are also gun nuts. There are quite a few "post your arsenal" threads that I've seen on most car forums.

I'll mess with any car I can get my hands on, import or domestic. I've ran nitrous on everything from nissan, honda/acura, chevy cavalier, many ford 302s. I traded my last toy for my wifes new car and bought myself a Sonoma recently. <--its getting a bottle too ;)

I just bought a new Mazdaspeed 3 in black mica (grand touring model). I had to deal with three dealerships to get the best deal and they didn't even have the car on the lot yet. I also have a nicely modified 2000 Mustang GT that I purchase new. They are both great cars but I love my old pickups and suburban just as much.

In the market for my first vehicle.Deciding between the Honda Integra(RSX Type-S), Accord Euro R(TSX), Accord EXV6 6MT, or the S2K.I have a hard time picking one for all seasons.

Sucks that it snows in my area or I'd definitely go for the S2K.

Good used S2Ks can be found for like 16k. I REALLY wanted one, until I sat in one at a car show. Nothing wrong with it other than it does not like people who are 6'3". I could not physically get my left foot on the clutch. The gap between the sterring wheel and door armrest/handle was much narrower than my knee restricting its movement. Also when getting out, it was not really akward as the top was down, so I litterally stood up and stepped out like it was a bathtub.

Generally when you talk about "putting down" power it means the actualy wheel horsepower/torque as measured at the wheels through a chassis dynometer...not what the engine makes.

Example: My car makes 385 horsepower at the rear wheels, I would say it "puts down 385 horesepower"....even though the engine makes ~450.

Just one of those little things. Most people won't notice or know, but the gearheads will. ;)

+1

Car manufacturers rate their HP from the crank. Factor about a 20% loss and it will get you close to WHP. For bikes it is closer to about 10-15%.

260 hp at the crank is about 208 at the tires.

Still 260 at the crank is still pretty impressive.

My 04 SRT4 (stg 1) put down 238 hp and 264 Ft. lbs.

Rated 240hp and 260 Ft lbs, a little underrated lol.

at %15 loss that 273hp and 303 Tq. Not bad for a four banger :).

Another thing to keep in mind. Don't compare power based on manufacturer ratings. My car was rated at 305 horsepower, but stock they made 285-300 rwhp. Of course, it's much more fun at 385rwhp...but I need a couple hundred more now .

I don't want more power yet. I still have a ten bolt rear end. Blew the posi on the first rear (running 1.64 60's)and only replaced it with a used, stock unit I picked up for $200.

I need a 12 bolt before anything else.

It won't be upgraded for some time ($$$ restrictions).

I have a 2006 RSX-S myself. I like it a lot, a few complaints but nothing major. It does well in the snow, not quite as good as my neon did though. Mine stayed stock for about a month. It currently has CAI, K-Pro, 4-2 Spoon header with 2-1 ITR cat, and Ingalls TD. It's a blast to drive and still gets 33 mpg on the highway. I really need to get my K-Pro professionally tuned. I just did it myself for the fuel; I didn't even touch the cam angles yet.

That looks like a clean RSX

Yet another import guy out there going for actual performance improvements over flashiness. A few hundred thousand more of us and maybe we can undo the damage that freaking Fast and the Furious movie has done to the scene. I liked it like it was back in the early to mid 90's before it got real big. I remeber when pretty stock looking Integras were on the cover of SCC, now every yahoo wants to put huge freaking wings on any and everything that should not have one.

Keep the clean imports coming.

she put down 363 hp on the dyno out in colorado springs, here at home it's probably closer to 400.

nice 'quest. I always thought those cars looked great. Sort of Porsche 944-esque.

I can't say I really like the looks, but that would look sick with a big blower sticking out of the hood. Very Road Warrior.

I've had two. 1st an 89 TSi SHP. Now an 87 TSi...
It runs like ass. Paid 350 for it though.

Light porting to the exhuast mani and stock 12a. Getting a full resto. Built motor. Forced performance hybrid. Standalone, mpi, etc.

Welcome aboard!

I'm Cochese on 26us, tristarion, trances, g54b and I'm imzadi930 on sqf.
