Had the DE out Sat. doing some scouting of a new property that I am considering leasing for a hunting club.

From the ATV trail, had walked down on the edge of an old cedar swamp that was fairly open. Heard what sounded like splashing in the water and looked up to see 5 or 6 hogs coming towards me in 8(or so) inches of water. The last one of the bunch was good size.

Moved into position to intercept them when they came "ashore". Couldn't get any closer than 40 yards so took a position behind a rather large cypress knee. Used that for a rest and waited. They were strung out but one by one they came ashore 40 yds from me. As the last one(biggest of the bunch) touched dry land I let loose with the best grunt that I could muster up. The hog slammed on the brakes and looked around. I immediately sent a 300gr. Hornady XTP on its way. The hog dropped in its tracks. The XTP had hit the hog just forward of the front shoulder,a little low. The impact had severed the spine and exploded the heart.

Put the sow on the scales when I got back home and she weighed 170 pounds, field dressed.

My DE has accounted for lots of game over the years. Every time I think of selling it,it puts more game in the freezer. Will probably own the old(MK 1)DE 'til I die. But that's ok,after owning it for 15 or 16 years,it's just gettin' broke in.

Nice. I haven't hunted much with my Mark XIX lately, keep using my 10mm LongSlide. I'll have to take my DE on a hog trip soon.

...thanks for the kind words.

I try to kill and eat all the animals that I can. My list is ever growing.

That must be a really accurate Wooger that you have their. Would you ever consider selling it?

Well, off hunting again tomorrow. Will go back to the same spot and try to kill all the smaller hogs. Wish me luck.

I just got a NIB mark XIX .44 magnum Desert Eagle in Black Oxide. I cant wait to try it out on some targets over 25m. Thats a great story about your hog hunting...:)

.....on the new DE. You will(if not already) be glad that you got yours in .44Mag.

Shoot the HOT! stuff. Remember,no lead. Think about aftermarket sights and grips. Practice at the longer ranges.

For hunting, take a look at the "shooting sticks". Mine is a Stoney Point "Pole Cat". It's a monopod. Their advantages are the "swingability". Also when properly ajusted(height),for close shots push the stick away from you,for long shots pull the stick towards you. I can routinely hit a 6" circle(white paper plate) at the, long for pistol, ranges.

To me,the 240gr bullets will kill just about anything. For the bigger deer, black bear, hogs, try the 300gr Hornady XTP's. They will penetrate like a SOB.

Good luck and good shootin'.
