Hey Hoosiers!

I applied for my CCW January 3rd in Fort Wayne. It is March 1st and I still haven't received anything!! Is this normal? Can I call someone to check its status?

I'm starting to think someone at the FWPD went and bought beer with my application fee.

ughhh....

My buddy at work applied for his lifetime one about a week or two ago. He said that when he asked "how long", they said it could be up to 180 days  .

I got mine about 3 years ago (obviously not the lifetime one) and it only took about 2-3 weeks. I have heard it has started taking a lot longer now that the lifetime thing has taken effect.

Thats ridiculous!! It has to be like 15 minutes of paperwork, maybe a database check. 180 days..... they might as well start telling people they don't give a sh$$ right to their face !

Well.. I've never thought of it that way.. but now that you've pointed it out.. It does look like they don't care ..

Or even worse.. they want us to feel greatly inconvienced because we ( by way of the political system ) made them do something they really didn't want to do..

If you're waiting for a "CCW," you might want to pack a lunch and bring a comfy chair, because you'll be waiting a long, long, long time. That's because Indiana does not issue a "CCW." We have the Indiana License to Carry Handgun, with no requirement for concealment, nor is it a "permit."

Heh. Yeah, I'm bein' a smarta**, but it's like 04:44 in the morning and I shouldn't even be awake!

You are going to be waiting awhile longer. I was told on February 27th by the State Police that it is taking 14 weeks after they cash your money order. I just got mine on the 28th. I sent mine in on November 30th.

No, but I have heard that they have had more permits than usual applied for and less people doing the job.

Plus, the understaffed Firearms Division has to take time away from doing background checks to answer whiney-azzed phone calls asking what is taking their 'permit' so long.....

Be patient, you'll get it.

Be calm, brasshopper. Use the time to practice your taiqigun (dry practice). It's creeping up from 12 weeks to around the 14 week mark.

If you want to make a change, write your state rep and senator. As well, yell at the NRA and ISRPA and tell them you want increased funding and some sort of legislative imposed time limit.

mpholic, sorry, I failed to make myself clear--time limits with teeth.

E.g., for every day over 30 days, make it a $100 fine payable to the applicant by the State Police (payable from their training funds), or, for GTers, 500 rounds of ammo.

I called the ISP this afternoon and asked them about MY application, as it has been almost 60 days since I sent it in. I was told, "If you have the receipt from your money order (the one that was sent to the ISP w/ your application), find out if it was cashed yet. If it was cashed, count out 14 weeks, and that is when your LTC will be issued. We are running 14 weeks behind & working on November right now."

They were very nice and helpful (as always) and told me the reasons for the backlog were many (slammed w/ applications, cut/reassignment of staff, changes in computers/procedures/etc.), but they were working as best as they could.

I am finding all of this very discouraging as I just applied for my lifetime on March 1st and my current permit expires on March 21st! Yes I know that I shouldn't have waited until the last minute but I did! If I understand correctly as long as I make application for a renewal before my current expires my current is good until I get my new one or they deny it. Does anyone know if this is a correct interpretation of the law?

FWIW - It took me 113 days to get mine. Filled out the app and sent it in on November 8th, just got it last week. This was for a 4 year permit too since I don't know where I'm going to end up after Rose (God willing, it won't be IL, NY, NJ, or CA).

What's the easiest way to check if my postal money order has been cashed? Do I have to go to the post office to check? Thanks.

I submitted in november, haven't received mine, no clue if they even received my application.

According to their website there is a form that you have to submit to check if it has been cashed. It also costs $3.15 or around that much.

I thought there was a 1-800 number on the receipt from the MO that you could call and see if it has been cashed. I might be thinking of a bank one. I need to check with the credit union and see if my bank check has gone through yet. Great googily I love state government.

Was told 4 months/16 weeks when I did the paperwork at the Sherriff's office. My KY buddies think this is the biggest bunch of BS they have heard of, being that I can't even legally transport an unloaded handgun in a locked case until it gets here.

Sent my lifetime permit application in the second week of February, IIRC. Just got it last week. Took it over to Kinko's on U.S. 31 South and got it laminated. The twink-o at Kinko's charged me the princely sum of $1.33 (including tax) for his efforts. So I'm set for the time being.

At least I survived another year without them taking away the life time, I hate that whole 180 days before expiration thing. I have to wait until the middle of 2008 to be eligable. When I first applied about 8 years ago it took about 8 weeks, my renewal was much quicker since I knew the Cheif and he pushed it along, I had let it lapse a few months.

Sent it in March 22nd and got it May 17th...56 days...not too shabby...the good news is that this is my first LTC and it will be my last as I got the lifetime...
Stoped by Kinkos to laminate and now I'm ready to roll....
now the real question... Where in indy do i get a good cheap IWB for my G19?

KSFreeman
05-18-2007, 06:18
Don't go with a cheap holster IME. Holster and belt are very important to safe comfortable carry.

Milt Sparks: http://www.miltsparks.com/

I use the Executive Companion but there are many other good holsters. Get a belt from the same maker. I recommend horsehide.

I mailed my application in on April 19th of this year and I don't expect to hear anything for a long time. Keep in mind that I'm a college student and I applied 3 days after VTech, so I don't imagine they're too enthusiastic about my app.

Anyway, I made a point of applying for a license before I even got a gun because I know the red tape is going to be a royal pain. I'll let you know when I get it--if? :worried:
