View Full Version : Shooter's dad blames "authorities"
I know he's grieving the loss of his son too, but to deflect the blame to the authorities is pretty stupid.
"The authorities are guilty for not alerting us that he bought a gun. In the U.S., you cannot buy cigarettes if you are underaged, but you can buy a gun," he said.
Maybe he should stay there, in Bosnia :steamed:

It sure as hell wasn't the father's fault at all...or could it be?

WTF?
He's implying that his son possessed the guns illegally.
It seems to me that he bought them both legally.
Maybe he should've paid closer attention to his son, instead of blaming everyone else.
Deport his whole family.
So, I’ve been flamed in a PM for seeming to come down hard on the dad by starting this thread.
My first reaction to the PM was “up yours!”
On deeper consideration and rereading it, I must consider some of the points made, like: I have no idea what it is like to have lost a child, the father may be out of his head and spouting off too much (so what), AND (most importantly) reporters will capture and use whatever clips they deem to be in their own best interest to sell copy.
I hope my parents aren’t punished for my sins, and I won’t blame this father for his son’s.
I also realized the hypocrisy in my stirring up muck and what I’ve chosen for my subtitle. I should have just let this heal, and let it get behind us as soon as possible.
I apologize.

1. I don't blame the dad for his son's actions.
2. OK, he's greiving the loss of his son (a mass murderer). Murderer aside, it's ok for him to grieve, I can't take that away from him. But just because his son died does not give him any excuse to be an idiot and make ridiculous accusations and say stupid stuff. If he doesn't like the US, he's welcome to leave.

Didn't Carolyn McCarthy, Representative from New York, lose her husband in a shooting?
Yes, she did. Unfortunately, she does not seem to realize that limiting the freedom of the law abiding will not stop others from suffering the loss of a loved one. Enforcing existing laws will accomplish much more than her proposed ban ever could.
