Any one in our GLIPSC group have a Sig ( I'm looking at a 229) and I want feedback. I'd love to shoot one.

You don't want a Sig. Trust me.

But Dom I thought you loved your SIG 1911?
I've shot a few and they were all accurate and never had any problems. New ones can be a tad pricey though.

If it's a centerfire handgun and it's not a Glock or a 1911, it sucks. Sorry, I know the truth is painful at times.

Get over it Dom. Sigs are fine and some people find them extremely accurate and reliable. If you want to shoot a Sig, let me know. Most people who don't like them have an issue with the transition from DA to SA. I have a P220, P226 and a P228 you can try. The P228 is older and no longer in production. It was replaced by the P229. Handles and looks almost identical. All are stock with no mods. Just let me know. If your looking for additional info, you could also check out

The 229 is what I think I want. I traded my carry piece and right now I'm packin' my 17. It's a little big and I prefer something like a Sig
or even a Beretta if they made a shorter 92F. I know you shoot at open range alot so let me know when I can meet you there. I'd like to shoot a mag to make sure it fits my hands . I'd really appreciate it.

Beretta does or at least did make a compact 92FS I saw one at the gun show in Lexington this past weekend. But the 228 (only available in 9mm) or 229 is a tad closer in size to the Glock 19/23, Sig also made a P245 which was a .45 in the same size general size as the 229. And they also have the 239 which is smaller still and available in 9mm, .40 and .357, I see those for sale alot. Now you do realize that the SIGs don't have a safety, just a heavier DA pull first shot and and a de-cocker (I know you've said you prefer a safety) so a Beretta compact fits that requirement.
Beretta also made the Centurion (fullsize frame with shorter barrel and slide probably the same size maybe a tad bigger and definately heavier than the G17. You might also want to look at the HK usp compact, I think some variants had a manual safety.

I blew the last match with a TZ99 which is like a 226. I will have it with me at the next match I will shoot at.

I kid the sig owner, of course. If couldn't have Glocks and 1911s I'd own a bunch of Sigs and Berettas. I really dig the P220 and the P228 and I was very shot a 220R last week but I didn't get to spend a lot of time with it. No doubt Sigs would not enjoy the reputation that they have if they weren't top performers.

Let me borrow a page from KYGunDoc's book and re-write it slightly: If you're collecting, get any handgun you want. If you're competing, stick with one manual of arms, one grip and one trigger. I sure wish I could follow good advice when I hear it; if I could then I never would have spent all that time and money jacking around with Lee Reloading Equipment and I would have bought the Dillon from the get go, but I digress.

I have a Sig 228 9mm, you can try out. Very close to the 229. We can meet at the club sometime.

I shot my brothers 229 in .40 and loved it. I am kicking around selling / trading my 226 for a 229 myself.

I may have a father & son that is interested in your class.

tilford's guns on fern valley has 'demo', red box sigs for $549. they have two .40 229's and one 9mm 226. i handled the 226 and it was in pristine condition. i seriously considered picking it up for myself at that price. i would have been more interested in a 9mm 229, but they didn't have one.
