These are really two different weapons. Generally the SPR has an 18" barrel and the Recce (Recon) has a 16". Both are using SS barrels with 1/7 twist. In the early days, the 18" SPR's had rifle length gas systems, but they found out that this is a poor choice in cold weather.

I believe that the 16" Recon's had carbine length gas systems, but now have Middy.

KAC and PRI rails are the common rail systems found with optics ranging from USO, NF, LP and SB. DR optics are also seen on the SPR's a lot for CQB purposes.

The RECCE is generally seen with a 1-4 Variable optic on it so the operator can do both short range and mid-range.

Ammo used varies between if it is an Army weapon or a Navy weapon. The Army seems to prefer M855 and the Navy likes MK262.

The Recce doesn't actually have specs per say. According to a Navy SEAL poster over at the Tactical Forums, the original concept of the Recce was a regular M4 with fixed front sight, railed hand guard, generally had the SOPMOD stock and the optic was user preference.

I believe this to be a great concept as the red dot sights don't work for me. My AR is based on the Recce concept.

16" Noveske barrel with a LaRue 13.2" forearm.
