I was just wanting to know if some people here could help me make an informed decision about the slip on hogue grips manufactured for the glock pistols. I bought a swt and attempted to put them on and ripped the back all the way down so my gunshop is ordering me a new one can anyone tell me if this has happened with theirs or any positive or negative feedbacks would be appreciated. Thanks

Soak them in very hot tap water for about 10 minutes to make them expand before attempting to put them on your Glock. I have the same grip and it has been on my G22 and G21.

Another tip to save you some cash is to use a bicycle inner tube instead of the Hogue grip. I have used both and prefer the inner tube.

I placed the Houge grip on my G27 last week, it was a little difficult to get on but I did not try any tricks, just slipped it on. On the G27 it needs to be trimmed, which is easy with a razor blade.

the best way to slip on a houge grip is to either spray on some hairspray or gun scrubber on the inside of the grip, and it slips right on, super easy.

Place one drop, and ONLY one drop of Breakfree inside of the Houge grip and spread it around on the smooth inside rubber surface. Immediately work the Houge Hand All onto the Glock grip. Within about 10 minutes the Breakfree will be absorbed into the rubber sleeve, and soon after the grip will not slide around.I used this method on my G23 and it does not move at all.

Soapy water will work too. Apply a little inside the grip to install and when it dries, the grip doesn't slide.

I put mine in boiling water and put it on quickly before it could cool. Once it contracts, it won't move. Any lubricant that makes it easier to put on will also make it easier to slip under use.

Well I used a hair dryer to heat mine up. It took some brut force, grunting and about 30 minutes but I finally got that sucker on. I have Hogue grips on my 19 and 23. I tore one trying to put it on my 26. So I purchase a Pachamyr for it and it went right on.

+1 on using a hair drier. No grunts and groans like another poster said either. G19 and G30 both have them. Hair spray is good for making them stick in place.

Bicycle inner tube...doesn't alter grip w/ a palm swell and doesn't add MORE finger bulk to the finger grooves...and for $3.00 you have enough for 2 dozen guns!

Hairspray on the hogue. Lubricates it going on, then when it dries it helps hold it where it's set.

Just got mine yesterday and put it on last night....no opinion yet other than I think possibly the first finger groove may be too close to the trigger guard as it seems like it ismaking my middle finger rub the guard. I can't move it down either because it needs to align with the Glock finger grooves

I bought one sevreal weeks ago for my G23. I love it. The G23 already fit my hand well (I have medium sized hands), but now it feels like the gun was crafted to my hand. The rubber also absorbs some of the recoil of the .40 S&W, i noticed my grounps got a little tighter when I took it out last time.

That frame allows less room between the trigger guard and top "hump" than the full or subcompact frames. As you discovered, the Hogue is going to exacerbate the problem.

I would go with the bike tube solution. You may also wish to explore removing or reducing the top hump, or relieving the underside of the trigger guard to allow more room for your finger.

I'd also like to know this...I've used the Hogue before (still have it on there, feels great and no slip...used a hairdryer) but am considering the innertube for my next purchase.

Use the standard adult mountain bike tubes.

I had one I took off a bike that got a flat and took it to work one night and ended up putting one on my personal weapon and did 6 or 7 other peoples duty guns.

Definately the best grip around for the money and it doesnt make the grip bigger at all. Also, I have found that my grip gets a little "grippier" with everytime I grab the gun.

I also stuck one on my XD and one on my Sig. I get sweaty hands so it works great on ALL my guns.

Great tip with the bicycle tube. I didn't care for the houge grips, and grip tape is too grippy. I'll give the tube a try. Thanks.

I used a Walmart "BELL" 20" standard bicycle tube $2.96...Can't beat it and have enough left over for about 10 more..I'll post some pics this weekend..

Are you cutting the tube before you put it on the grip? I would think so. I don't think you would want to risk taking a razor blade to it after it's on the grip.

I'm just not sure that I could eye ball something like that and still have it look decent.

Anyone have any tips on how to figure out the right size to cut the tube to?

I'm going to try this on my G19.

Thanks.

What I "personally" did......

I cut the tube about 4" long, then heated it up with the hair dryer, then just worked it onto the grip until I got it on there. Next, I take a very sharp razor blade and trim it exactly even with the bottom of the mag well and let it sit a for a while. It will shrink itself up a bit and if you cut it too high, it will pull up some.

I have done my 2 guns and probablly 6 or 7 other Glocks and XD's like this and it works like a charm.

removed my newly installed Hogue grip yesterday.....just not enough room between the trigger guard and the finger groove on the grip. My middle finger was too crowded. I liked the feel it just aint gonna work with my hand. It rubbed my middle finger too much

It is just at the bottom of the mag well now, any more and it would hang off, but it's on there good and not moving anywhere :)
On my next poly-framed gun I'm going to try the innertube

I just picked up my $2.97 inner tube from WallyWorld and installed it on both my 27 and 23. I really like the way they feel and appreciate you guys who suggested it here.

Just so you know, these things do move around during extensive shooting. They are fine for plinking or bullseye (read: slow) shooting. But I finally took mine off after it kept moving around (sideways, up and down) during IDPA and qualification shooting. I am using the A-grip now and while it isn't perfect either, it is much better IMO.

Just curious...what size inner tube did you use? I used the Bell 20 suggested earlier in this thread and it's tight as a drum. I shot 200 rds yesterday including rapid fire and not even the slightest sign of any movement. As a matter of fact, I tried with everything I had to reposition one of em and couldn't get it to budge even a fraction of an inch.

larryg2: What method did you use to put it on? Did you use hairspray etc?

I'm still figuring out my game plan for attempting this.

I dipped mine in "very hot" (not to the point of boiling) water for about 2 mins, then removed, sprayed the inside with a good coat of my girlfriend's hairspray and slid it on quickly. Went on like a dream. I've heard of problems with them ripping. I think getting them more pliable with hot water takes care of that...

Oh, and BTW, I love my hogue slip-on with the palm swell. Doesn't feel like anyone could wrestle it from my grip, and just more comfortable feeling to me, personally. I've had other LEO's handle it and say "arghhh". I guess it depends on your hand/s.

I put NOTHING on mine. Just cut them to size by eyeballing them and stretched one end over the butt of the grip and stretched and pulled till they were in place. Really didn't take more than a minute or two per gun. Ok, the bottom wasn't perfectly aligned, but they're not going to be featured on the cover of any magazines either! :tongueout:

If I could figure out how to upload pics here, I would. But I've tried several times without success.

I didn't like the houge grip and the bicycle tube was alright but Lone Wolfes Quick grip worked the best as far as no slippage and comfort for me.

Proper placement (my placement at least ;-))
