I used a large bicycle tube as a grip inhancer. I found it very comfortable, but after a couple hundred rounds and four other people shooting it the tubing started to slip. I really enjoyed using it, but if it cannot be secured than I don't want it. I was also thinking about using a smaller tube so it would be tighter, but was not sure if I would have the same problems.

I know there are many that use a bicycle tube so there must be a solution.

Here is what I have done...

I'm going to be interested to see if I can get a single layer over the Crimson Trace grips...

I have read that the trick to keeping the houge grips oon it to use hair spray, is that the same for the bicycle tube grips as well?

If that is the case I would also like to know if there is a hair spray that is better than another.

thanks

I have use the thinnest double back tape to keep my Hogue slip on grips from moving. Without them they would turn slightly .

zeppe807...

Those look like very large and thick inner tubes that you are using. Are you using two? Here's what I recommend you try:

I simply went to Wal-Mart and purchased a 2 inch (diameter) tube for like 3 bucks. It is nice and thin and I really had to work slowly to get it on the grip, but once it's on, it stays and does not budge at all. Also, don't make any cuts of buldges in the iner tube. Just let it be nice and flat. I *really* love my G19 grip now. It feels very comfortable and secure in my hand, and it doesn't grab my clothing when carrying concealed.

Just my 2 cents... but I'd recommend you try it.

White Rain and AquaNet are the cheapest hair spray. I use them in radio control modeling to coat balsa before applying the covering. Cheap hair spray is just thinned lacquer.

If the tube is small enough it won't shift around, you should really have to work to get it on. None of mine have ever slipped.

Those are larger tubes, but they were $FREE.99 I just figured they would work, because I actually like the larger grip size and the cushy feeling from the thicker grips. I can't believe that I said Cushy. I will try to find a smaller tube size.

+1 on the Wal Mart $3 tubes. My hands sweat very easily and wanted a firmer grip on my 21C. Absolutely no slip, but a bear to put on. Definately worht the work. Bought one and have since gripped several other guns. One of the pleasant suprises is that as your hands get warm the grip becomes tackier. At least mine does.

dont use large tubes....get smaller ones. I had tubes on my G17 and they never moved....and that is about 2,300 rounds...and another success story...my father has has the tube on his G17 since the early 90s and no problems.

I think I'm going to have to go buy a tube tomorrow...

shot 200rds today in about 30 minutes, and the checkerboarding/finger groove combo seems to not fit my middle finger just right...

we'll see how it goes...and if it'll go over the CT laser grip...

i forget what size tubes i got. Dont get mountain bike tubes. get regular bmx bike tubes. I think they are 20 inch or 18 inch tubes. They are harder to get on...but never move

Did the bicycle tube mod to my G23 last nite..It really turned out great.I like the feel of it and fits nice and snug...I used the standard 20" BELL tube frome Walmart ($2.95). It was a pain to get it on but well worth the work.Plus enough left over to do about 10 more.Showed it off a bit and was asked where I got that nice grip..Couldn't believe it was a bicycle tube.. Thanks for the help guys...this is a A++++++ forum:hugs:

I have tried virtually every grip known to man from skate board tape that scratched my leather car seat, to Hogues, to Pachmayrs, to no grips and everything in-between, and I keep coming back to what works the best - the ever-so-humble bike tube grip. Doesn't shift under recoil, provides just enough traction, can be cut any way you like, cost pennies, shines up nice with a little ArmorAll applied....

Yes to a little hair spray underneath for extra stability.

Putting duct tape on a ford is a serious waste of duct tape. That's even worse than putting expensive cosmetics on a pig.

Are you cutting the tube before you put it on the grip? I would think so.

I'm just not sure that I could eye ball something like that and still have it look decent.

Anyone have any tips on how to figure out the right size to cut the tube to?

I'm going to try this on my G19.

Thanks.

Cut the tube to a approximate size, try it, draw on the tube where you want to cut it (sharpie, or ball point), cut again, repeat process. I used a sharp pair of scissors at an angle to get the beveled look. Try to make long smooth cuts so it looks better than a bunch of short cuts. Also cut the top section to your preferred style and then cut the excess off the bottom.

I am going to eventually try a smaller tube size because the one I used shifted under rapid fire. It is a nice feeling though when shooting, it really grips well.

Gave it a try for my Glock 22. Used a standard 20" tube. Let me know what you think:

Korey- Looking good to me!

All of my GLocks have the standard bicycle tire tube grip.

Simply cut it to fit. Wash it really good with soap and a little warm water. Turn it inside out. Spray the inside with extra-hold hairspray. put her on, and there you go!!

All mine have held up, and have NOT sliped a bit.
