New gas tax?

Why do we need an increase in the gas tax? I thought we passed that amendment to take auto sales tax was going to fund "transportation"? Could if be that the amendment was in fact a swindle to take my tax $$ and funnel them to some mass transit boondoggle in metro land?

What gets me is that gas stations are not allowed to go down on prices below 8 cents of what they pay for gas, but there is no ceiling on that same gas they can charge. If they can't go below 8 cents for gas then they shouldn't be allowed to go above that same figure...The smaller stations were kind of robbed on that law and SA and Holiday benefit the most...
