View Full Version : Night sights...poor eyesight
Meprolight True Dot Green/Yellow or Green/Orange, Trijicon or TruGlo TFO Green/Yellow.
I have less than perfect eye sight and am in the market for night sights for my G22. Which of the above, in YOUR OPINION would be best?
Personal experience/testimonials welcomed.
Thanks,
Carl

None, all have poor light ratios. I would go for something with a wider rear and thinner front as the larger light ratio makes them easier to see, particularly for older eyes. Something like Warren, Sevigny, Heinie or Ameriglo operators.
Thanks, CGR...
Anyone else have an opinion they would like to share? I would like to get a consensus
Thanks,

i do understand. i have 3 glocks, one is my sisters. her eye got cut with a coke bottle when she was a kid and it nevere did heal proper,it was her dominant eye. she works late hours and she needed something that she could see and be sure of. we went though site after site. she found tru-glo fiber optic/ tritium all green. she has had them 3 yrs and not one problem. just try them, you might go with something else but at least try them. they run around 135.00. good luck.
The meprolight are great in very low light but the aren't much for daylight, the stock glock sights are better in full light in my opinion.

TruGlo TFO. 3 Green Dots. Fast to find when you draw. Will improve your shooting in the daylight as well as in low light.

Have you actually shot with the XSBD sights? If yes, and you like them, then go for it! They are a quality product, but they're not for everybody.
Depending on just how your eyesight is, and assuming you've looked into prescription corrective lenses, I'm inclined to agree with Matt.
I'm not a TFO fan, due mostly to some quality issues...
But I love the DP fiber optic target sights (see attached) on my dedicated range gun--a G17.
I'm going with AmeriGlo Operator sights next, in yellow/green, on my soon-to-be G30!

What type of problem did you have with the TFOs Ray? I am curious because I have 2 sets of them. Is there something I need to keep an eye out for?

Carl;
My eye sight has faded in recent years as well. I tried many night sights and found that although they were great in the dark I couldn't see the little white dots so well in the daylight.
I now use TruGlo T.F.O. They are sharp and bright in all types of light... dark, dusk, sunny. I highly recommend them.

Fair enough--I've never owned them.
But over the past 17-months, I've followed their development with great interest. In that time I've read numerous posts on this forum, some submitted with photographs, describing and illustrating problems with the following:
. Fit
. Finish
. Assembly
. Longevity
. Durability
All of the above fall under quality control, and with a 90-day warranty (is that like the worst in the industry?), I'm just not sold.
I own Meprolight, Trijicon, XS, SureFire, LaserMax and Dawson Precision. I'll vouch for the quality of all these.
My next sights will be AmeriGlo.
TFO is a cool idea, I'll admit. I like the TFO front sight on the Sig Equinox. Perhaps, if I begin reading all good reports, I'll change my mind and give them a try!

I know when you read the information supplied by the manufacturer, they warn you NOT to expose the sights to solvents as it damages the fiber material. Makes perfect sense to me so I have been careful to dry wipe my slide down and am careful when I brush the inside surfaces.
I shoot a fair amount so I will keep an eye on the durability part although Im pretty careful to not expose the weapon to excessive wear and tear like pistol whipping etc
Thanks for the follow up.
Thanks for the input folks, Looks like I may be going with the TFOs...

Ameriglo Combat or Heine Race Cut from Custom Glock Racing... both are excellent... my aging eyes prefer the Ameriglo best and they cost less too.
