View Full Version : Shells stuck on extractor - Mossy 500

When I shoot slugs in my Mossberg 500, the brass stays hooked on the extractor. The shell is at a 90 degree angle (or a bit less) to the bolt. Any thoughts?
Check for movement of the extractor in question (I know there's 2 extractors on a 500 bolt, problem one may be the outside one). It should move in and out with spring tension, similar to that of a pistol. Check for burrs or deformation. Remove the bolt and compare one extractor to the other.
Check your fired/extracted cases for telltale marks/burrs/small creases or ususual "witness marks". Sometimes there are clues there to be seen (pics would be super helpful).
Another thing to consider is the condition of the ejector, a metal piece that lives in the inside of the receiver, opposite the ejection port. Check to see that it's not damaged.
Show some pic's and I'll help as much as I can. I'm gonna go look inside mine now, for reference. If I think of anything else, I'll post again.

first off what ammo?
are you cycling the pump handle and the shell is not ejecting out the port? stays in the bolt?
check the ejector it should be held down by a screw that is visible when you pull the bolt back. inside left wall of receiver.

if the shell is getting stuck in the chamber and not coming out need to clean and polish the chamber.

Its happening with all slug loads...the lip on the brass stays stuck on the outer extractor. So, the spent shell is held at a 90 degree angle to the bolt. Its been inspect by a gunsmith and he couldn't find anything wrong.
