Hi,
I am considering purchasing a G19 and found one that the seller claims has very few rounds through it and it shows very few signs of wear so I tend to believe him.
The barrel hood has had some machining applied that the seller claims was accomplished to smooth out the gun and to reduce wear according to his father, who reportedly owned the gun originally.
The barrel hood has been slightly beveled to keep the slide from contacting the it during cycling and a circular machining pattern has been applied to the three other topside surfaces of the barrel hood--the bottom of the barrel hood and the barrel lug are untouched. This machining is very minimal as some black shadowing from the original Tenifer remains on the hood and the barrel markings remain very clear so I suspect minimal dimension change to the hood.
Perhaps the pattern was applied after the bevel so its shiny steel color did not contrast with the remainter of the barrel. I have to admit there is no apparent slide contact with the barrel hood as there is no apparent wear like I see with my G30's barrel hood and slide.
My question is: Have any of you seen something like this in your travels? Will it affect the accuracy of the pistol. Should I consider this a bonus or should I run from the deal?
I cannot seem to find anything like it on the Internet. The asking price is a good deal, but not a good enough deal if this machining has depreciated the price significantly or if it has rendered the barrel unusable and requiring replacement.
If I decide to purchase it, I plan to run it by a gunsmith before commiting to the deal.
Any comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for taking a minute to consider my request.
