Do you still have to give up your old GA DL, when you get your new one ? I don't have a passport or any other govt picture ID. How do you buy,(handgun) for that 90 days plus one, FFl's require for the 4473 ? I've heard property tax bills, birth cert. and so on. Sec. 922(t) sez it must have a photograph.
I'll be in 90day window for next NATC show. ANY suggestions ?

Little confused here, Maggie. I'm not sure we're talking about the same things.

1. Your current DL is valid for driving until you get your new one in the mail. Have you just moved in from out of state? I think if you just have, you take a writen test, and if I remember, a GA DL is issued on the spot.
2. Don't understand the "90 day" and "passport" references. Nor the ID (rifle) in your previous post.

If you can clarify we may be able to give you exact answers. Same for the questions in your previous post

I've been told by two different gun places, this week that after my new GA DL is re-issued, that I cannot buy a handgun for 90 days, because you must be a resident of ga for 90 days.
Tha new date of issue will not be back-dated it will be the date of issue say 4-4-07 for example. I gave back my old ga dl
when I get my new one. Now I can only prove I have been in ga since 4-4-07. Oh, well show me your old dl, don't have it, but I got this new one that's one day old, not 90 days. Game Over.
The dl reference applies to gun buying only not driving.
The passport reference applies to govt. issued picture ID in
section 922(t).

Maggie, is the dealer telling the only way they will sell to you is if you have a state ID or DL that is at least 90 days old? There are only three dates on a Georgia driver's license: date of birth, exam (issue) date, and expiration date. Therefore, a GA DL does not necessarily prove how long you have been a resident. I think there would be a lot of upset people if this stipulation were really true.

The applicant must provide dated documents that establish a 90 day or greater residency. According to ATF F 4473(5000.9) PART I, acceptable material for proving state residency are "utility bill from each of the last 3 months prior to the sale or a lease agreement which demonstrates 90 days of residency prior to the sale."

Do you have a utility bill or lease agreement that is at least 90 days old that you can present along with your DL?

I have my old license. They simply sent a renewal in the mail.

I just looked at my license. There is no date of issue on it. Is your exam date showing as 4-4-07?

the exact phrase is "exam date", 4-4-2007.
