I am very interested in the Kahr handguns. I have heard several negative comments regarding the pm40. I know the mk40 is heavy, but how has the reliability been as of late? Thanks for the help

Most Steel Kahrs are reliable. I have not had a problem with my MK40.

Well I just purchased a used MK40 elite 98 that was made in 2003. It is a beautiful handgun. I have fired about 200 rounds through it so far, with excellent results. I have had no reliability issues, firing WWB, Remington UMC, and also some Federal Hydrashocks. It does not feel like it functions like a subcompact, but feels like a very small full size pistol. I would not compare it to say a keltec p3at, more along the lines of an all steel glock 23(if you could picture it) but smaller and a much smoother, lighter trigger pull. It definitely packs a punch for such a small package, so 200 rounds in a range trip was pretty much my comfort limit. It is quite heavy for it's size, but VERY comfortable to carry. I can not recommend it highly enough, it is now my full-time carry gun. If you have any other specific questions feel free to ask.

I carry a Kahr K40 Covert (the precurser to the MK40 - short grip, normal-length slide & barrel). Gun's functioned flawlessly in the eight-or-so years since it was first purchased and I, personally, have had absolutely NO FTFs or FTEs in the three-or-so years I've owned it.
I got it from a friend (who's a LEO). He used it as his CCW piece before graduating from the academy, but now isn't authorized to use it as a 'backup'. As a result, he said he had no other uses for it so I (mercifully) decided to do him the great service of taking it off his hands. ;)
Yes it's a bit on the 'heavy' side, but the weight definitely works to tame recoil. And actually, I find it reassuring, as well. Also, the thing conceals as good as most .380s, but has the added advantage of a way larger caliber.
One more thing, though. I shot a little low with the factory sights that use to be on the gun. They were in an "i" configuration & I never could get use to ligning them up on a target correctly. I replaced them with three-dot, mepro sites, and have shot way better ever since.
