View Full Version : Slip on grips for G19

I'm thinking about trying some slip on grips for my G19. It's a 1st gen G19 model without the premolded finger grooves. My question is mainly about the quality of the grips over time. I know that Hogue makes them for Glocks and several of my co- workers have them, primarily on G17/ G22 models. My problem with Hogue grips is that I have noticed over time that they begin to fray around the edges and start to look like crap. I've tried Googling Glock grips and the links always seem to take me back to Hogue. Are they the only game in town or can someone recommend some other manufacturer?

I'm also willing to concede that cops are not always gentle with their firearms, so some of the quality issues I think I'm seeing may be a result of owner neglect as opposed to manufacturer defect. Personal anecdotes from any of ya'll out there who have them are absolutely welcome.

Have you considered trying bicycle inner tube for a grip? It's what I use and I love it!

I just tried the bicycle innertube grip for my G23. Now mine is a 3rd generation, not sure if that matters, but thus far I'm very happy with it. I got it at WalMart for $2.69 and I figure if it rips, slips, or starts looking bad I still have atleast enough tube to make 15 more grips.

That sends chills through my miserly old heart. I think I'll be stopping at Wal- Mart on my way home.

The Hogue Slip-on grip has an ergonomic palm swell and finger grooves that feel great to me...

I also use the bicycle inner tube and it works wonders.

I have used Hoag grips on my Makarov but they move around. I have "Uncle Mikes" slip on grips for my G17 and they are amazing. They do not move around and are much more comfortable (at least to me) than the 3rd Gen finger grooves. Problem is they are more difficult to find. Do a Google search. You will find them. They are really great.

Why pay for factory slip-ons, when the tube works, just as good and you can get creative?

I tried the Hogue Handall slip on grip, and I am hooked. I have one of these on each of my pistols. It does move around a little. This could easily be cured with a little Super or Gorilla Glue, but I don't want that **** on my good weapons. In any event, it is not a big deal. I have not seen any fraying under relatively hard use.

The palm swells are great and really make the pistol fit my hand. YMMV, of course, depending on your hand size. The Hogue rubber, similar to a bicycle inner tube, is non-slip, but is much easier on your hands than the polymer surface seems to be.

Thanks for the website reference. I bought my Uncle Mikes from Gander Mountain but they don't sell them anymore. Before I went to the website I did not know they were custom made for Uncle Mikes. I have never seen a slip on grip that fits so well on Glocks.

I had the hogue slip on grip with the finger grooves. After a few trips to the range, I hated it. I gave it away. It was just too easy to grab wrong and was always moving around and needed readjustment after carrying it all day. It was a PITA for sure. It also makes the rather large Glock grip even larger. I think the a-grip or tru-grip are a much better way to go.

Thanks to everybody for the tips. I decided to try bicycle innertube. I'll see how it like it and if I decide I don't, then I have a few other places to look.

I also put a Wal-Mart inner tube grip on my G19, what a difference. I also cut 2 more and put them in my range bag just in case.

I'm trying the bicycle tube grips on my G22 w/ Crimson Trace now...it's a 3rd gen (so finger grooves)...

that combo made it tough to put a single piece on and have it fit anywhere close to good...

I opted for cutting 3 bands about 1/2" wide...and ran one around each finger groove...feels great!! it does look like 3 black rubberbands, but who cares?

Turkeytrack,
What would you do to the inner tube to get "creative"? If any one has pictures I would appreciate any ideas.

I've seen people punch holes with a hole punch to add a little "extra" grip to them...

also seen one double-up on the tube...

I just got a Hogue grip today for my 22. I didn't except it to take half an hour to put the sucker on. So far I like the feel of it and all. Wait till the next time I'm out shooting to further decide.
