Was that really on Suribachi ??

here's my previous Jeep about 500 miles south of Suribachi...

:laughabove: 500 mi. south of Iwo Jima? Looks like you're sporting Guam plates. Nice YJ, by the way. Is that your kidd-o?

To answer your question, no we weren't at the actual Suribachi, we just call it that. It's this sand pit that, in order to get up it, you have to hit it at just the right speed. Too slow, you dig in and stall, too fast and you're going right over the other side. There was a group of Marines, one Army SF guy, and me, the lone Navy turd trying to get our rigs up it one day. After 3 Marines got spit off the backside (because they went in too fast), the Army SF guy said "Dang, kids, that sucker chews up Marines like Mt. Suribachi!" We all had a good laugh and the name just stuck.

Thanks... I left it on the island, but liked it so much (the YJ) that I bought another back here.
Yes, the kiddo is one of mine... they all fight about who gets to ride in it, and get pissed whenever I put the top up... "but it's not raining THAT hard!!" :)

Nice. My girlfriend is the same way. Gale force winds, sideways rain, and she's like, "Do we HAVE to put the top up?!?!" Lol, so you were in Guam, now you're in Texas. You over at Lackland? That's kinda far from Dayton...I'm assuming you're either Air Force or Navy.

My boy Matty just started a new company called Switchback Offroad. If you're familiar to the scene in Tampa, you know it's in the Xtreme Jeep building. The owner, Dom, sold the service side to Matty and we've been lifting JKs like a mo-fo, so if anybody is looking to do a lift in the area, Switchback is the place to go!

I am purchasing a 99 Cherokee on Monday. I had one in high school and haven't felt right sine I sold it years ago. It will make a fun 2nd ride. I'll post pics when I get it.

It has a 3" suspension lift and brand new 31" BFG All Terrains.

Here is a link to it. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to look for, how I can make it better etc?http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=&nid=443&tab=list/view&ad=376756

My father-in-law is a jeep FREAK. He has an '81 CJ built up with a fiberglass body, 350 motor, all the goodies, still work-in-progress, also had a 94 Wrangler lifted with 31s. Now also has an '89 Cherokee with 220,000 miles, fresh paint and fresh rebuilt 242 motor, just bought a 93 Grand Cherokee with 242 and the brother in law has a '01 Grand Cherokee V8.

So, I figured I needed to get back into one- Picked up an '05 Grand Cherokee 4x4 on Saturday to try out. We're supposed to sign the papers today. It's the Quadra-Drive I, so no rock climbing. But we took it thru the fields an crossed the creek yesterday to get to my range and she didn't skip a beat. Mud over the front tires and went right thru it.

My '04 Rubi with 33s, now has custom bumpers and winch, after market armor, yada yada, etc.

Unfortunately she's paid off, still worth about half her sticker price with 50,000 miles on her, and I'm seriously considering trading her in for an Element, which pretty much breaks my heart. I can't afford to drive her now, I can't afford to drive her to go 'wheeling, and MPG goes down further when you hook up a trailer to haul a couple of 'yaks. :crying:
