And then the Nazi does it anyway. What does this say about society? Brass Nazi 04-07-2007, 19:41 Originally posted by Steve Koski What does this say about society? Steve, You are no longer a "judge" so why are you "judging" my posts? Steve Koski 04-07-2007, 20:33 I'm asking you to judge society. I am no longer qualified. rustychev 04-08-2007, 06:47 I did not think I could pait the bolt. If I can that that will work just fine I think. Brass Nazi 04-08-2007, 12:30 I assume that you are doing this to take away hte glare of a hunting rifle. Personally I would just leave it alone but it is your gun and if you want to cover it up more power to you. If you spray paint the bolt it will wear out eventually and you should be able to remove the paint if you so desire. Make sure to not paint the lugs or the functioning parts of the extracor or ejector. I think so but its in the safe at home and Im at work Smokecloud 04-09-2007, 14:25 I have a stainless steel Caspian slide that is blued, so it must be possible, although, it seems to wear off easier than on carbon steel. A good friend of mine once told me "if you can make spaghetti at home, then you can blue a gun" He was assuring me that it was a simple process. As a "professional" I would not black oxide a stainless steel bolt. If you want corrosion protection, have your stainless steel bolt "passivated." Go to the web and search for stainless steel passivation. Send your bolt to an electroplater that specializes in firearms and specifically "stainless steel passivation." Note: passivation IS NOT electroplating. It's just that some electroplaters also do "stainless steel passivation." Passivation removes the "free irons" and "impurities" from the surface of the steel and leaves a natural protective barrier on the surface of the steel due to chemical oxidation. However, it is NOT like "Black Oxide." Passivation leaves the stainless steel smooth, clean and looking like new again. I would recommend you have any springs inside removed first. I do know of one company (who I have zero interest in) called "Anaheim Technical Plating" or "Tech Plate". Search them on google. They specialize in firearms stuff. They'll help you answer your questions better. Just my .02cents worth. Knock yourself out then..........Black Oxide sucks. Black Zinc is one step above black oxide as far as corrosion protection and zinc sucks for firearms. Hell, you could use watercolor paint on your gun if you'd like, I don't care. PzGren 04-23-2007, 04:06 Well, I am glad that you don't mind. I was worried about exactly your esteemed professional opinion! Blitzer 04-23-2007, 05:28 Black Chrome, actually a nickel plate over chrome can be done. I was worried about exactly your esteemed professional opinion! Well richard, I am in the electroplating business as a "professional." I own two plating companies. Thanks for the compliment. Other than probably one who "purchases" from me, what do you know about the industry???? I gave the guy a simple opinion about what type of coating/finish he could use on his stainless steel. Apparently my dising the black oxide finish has offended you. Sorry. Black oxide is only a cosmetic finish no matter what anybody claims. I do black oxide and it offers virtually no corrosion protection at all. It's really just for looks. It will accumulate rust faster than a cheap coating of zinc. Nickel is much better for wear and tear but I think passivating stainless produces a smoother finish on a stainless steel bolt along with an unseen oxidized finish on the stainless surface. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
