I'd like to mount a light to my AR, on the bayonette lug, but am having a hard time finding something to fit there :( Anyone got a good solution for this? I've seen someone sellings a clamp that will put a mini-picatany rail on to the lug, then you can put your light on there.

Get a real light mount.

My top rail doesn't have room due to my optics, and I'm trying to avoid installing an entire new lower rail.

Unless you've got a massive scope, there's always room.

And it sounds like you don't have a railed-fore-end.

If you don't there's wrap-around mounts for regular handguards.

I don't only got a rail on top.

I've seen some adaptors out there like this one:

Uh, remove the rail covers on the lower half and install a real mount.

Diferant view of what I think is the same product:

I'm aware that I could change out the cover and install a full mount, but am looking for anyone with advice on how to work around this. I've heard it's workable, but can't find any good examples (it may be that it's just a bad idea, in which case I'll be going for the full install).

Thanks for the replies!

The problem I see with sticking a light on the bayonet is the distance between your hand and the activation switch/lever. Seems like it would be awkward to have to turn off/on being so far forward which brings up another issue of making the rifle even more front heavy. Your best bet is to take advantage of your rails and install a vertical fore-grip and get a Scout style flashlight mount and a good light to stick in it.

LMAO....I was thinking the same thing :animlol: Why do you have the rails if you don't want to use them for what they are made for?

I liked the smooth look on the bottom with the covers in place, but am pretty convinced to just go with it now. Thanks for the replys.

Umm the whole reason for rails is to mount stuff.

I use a VFG and a Scout mounted 6P on the right rail. Bottom works as well, but I prefer the right rail for thumb activation.

Put the light on either the left or right rail depending on how you grip the fore end. If you've got rails you might as well use them for their intended purpose. You're going to have a really tough time activating the light without a tape switch with it mounted on the bayo lug, and, it's going to get in the way if you try to rest the fore end on anything. It's going to wind up sitting on the light.
