My nephew turns 23 in June. I recently learned that he has some interest in shooting. However, I know he never has had any exposure to firearms.

I want to buy him a couple of gift certificates that he can use to take a handgun class, rent a few pistols, and learn about handguns.

He lives in Indianapolis. Can anyone make some recommendations of quality instructors and ranges.

Thanks,

Most of the RO's at Eagle Creek Pistol Range are NRA certified. They don't have any kind of gift certificates available but they do have a 10 visit pass available.

http://www.ecpr.4t.com/ there is a phone number and email address here.

The forum member here SJStill is the manager of the range.

Forgive me oh Great Poobah for I have sinned.

Think that will keep me out of trouble with Steve?

Steve, the Chief R.O. @ Eagle Creek is having an NRA course in the near future ( check http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/find.asp?State=IN&Type= ). Also, Jim Heath, local NRA Training Counselor, has classes regularly in Acton, SE if Indy about 15 miles (see above, too).

I am also an NRA Basic Pistol & UT Concealed Firearm Permit Instructor & have classes in/around Indy.

My wife attended one of those last year, her first. She liked it. Plus the range is FREE once you've taken the course.

Sorry. If you take a class at Heath's house, he has a range in back, and after that you can use the range for free.

Speaking of which (and I don't mean to hijack), would you happen to know when you'll be teaching a Utah permit class this summer? I actually got summer employment and I'm looking to get a Utah permit to supplement my IN permit with some of the extra cash.

I don't have a class lined up @ present. I usually try to have one when I get a few folks interested. I seem to have about 1 per month on average, lately. Contact me when your ready & see if I have one then. If you end up ready & no one else is, I can do a 1 on 1 class. Or, if you know some folks in your area that are interested @ the same time, I could come over there.

It'll probably be in June or July sometime. It depends on if I pick up the second job at Gander for the summer.

I figure of most people in my area wouldn't be interested, but I will ask around.

Cougar Guy . . . were you one of the R-HIT kids I met at the shoot back in March??

It's possible. I was parked at the pistol range all day watching over the folks up there and didn't get much of a chance to chat with folks. Are you coming over for the last one we're having in May?

I was at the pistol range for a while. I was the big guy sitting on the plastic box behind everyone who was on the line. well, I did shoot a little ... Mike_L's little .22LR conversion on top of his Cav Arms AR lower is really fun.

I did meet your president and a fellow with red hair who was at the rifle and shotgun area. And of course I was re-acquainted with Don B. and Young Master Stephen. I hadn't seen Stephen for about 12 years, and now he's a on he way to being an M.E.

I don't think I can make the event in May, as I have other shooting related commitments. The turnout for the day in March was spectacular! I understand over 130 people signed-in, and I know I was one of them who didn't, so you must have had close to 150. The last time I was attended was probably in 1995 or so, and there might have been a couple of dozen at the most.

Oops! Sorry for the topic hijack, guys!

Ya, I remember you at the shoot. I did RO for the pistol line the whole day, and was carrying my G17.

At the end of the day we had just over 150 people on the list, then all those people that don't sign up. So we figure over 160 folks were there.

Steve and I may end up coming out to the shoot at Riley on the 29th, if it is still going to be held. I look forward to shooting my first USPSA match and seeing you there.

Cheers.

Dang, pretty soon everyone that was at the last shoot is going to be showing up here.:)

And what's this about the 29th? I'm probably not up for competing yet, but I'd love to come watch at the very least.

We www.wvpps.com usually have our monthly USPSA pistol matches on the third Sunday of the month. Because of Easter and some other events, the schedules of the clubs in Indiana got a little jumbled this month, so we moved our April USPSA pistol to 29APR07.

You guys are all welcome to come and participate or watch.

Hmmm, looks like I may have to come out and give it a try.

I mean, as close as it is to campus, it would be stupid not to. Thanks rhino.:)

Heck, yeah!

I am pleased that people from the R-HIT gun club actually respond to me now. There was a period from 2002-2006 when none of the contacts listed on the web site would respond to my e-mails even to let me know they received them.

Last year's president (whose name eludes me right now) actually shot a few matches with us.

We're a natural "fit" given the proximity and mutual interests.

Kevin?

Well, I was thinking about just coming to watch, but now you've got me excited enough that I think I'm gonna come try it out. Beats the hell outta homework for sure

yeah! Kevin!

Okay ... you'll need eye and hearing protection of course.

A holster that covers your trigger guard and is stiff enough to reholster with one hand

as many magazines as you have

pouches to carry the mags on your belt. I'd try to carry at least four on your belt, especially if you shoot a gun or division that allows 10rds or less in the magazines.
