Well, you bastards tricked me into it.
I just ordered a G35 slide from Caspian. Cost was just a hair under $300 with shipping. They have the almost finished slides already produced. After you order it they have to machine the sight grooves into it (you can get nearly any style sight grooves) and their logo (or not if you don't want any logos), and front cocking serrations (if you want to spend more, I didn't ), and it should ship in about two weeks.
I'll post pictures when it arrives. Now I've got to figure out what kind of sights to put on it...

It's here!
It's pretty darned slick. My only gripe is that it's not beveled at the front, like real Glock 35's are. Some may like it this way, but I prefer the beveled front.
I'm going to call Caspian tomorrow and ask if they can add that.
I haven't put the guts in it yet, but here's the slide with a Barsto barrel on my 35 frame.

Shiny on the sides, matte on the top back and front. No weight reducing cut over the barrel, stock sight cuts. Some day I'll weigh it and compare it to the stock part.
Cocking serrations are nice and crisp, very grippy.

Very nice Steve  How does it shoot compared to original?

No idea yet. I'll let you know when I get it all assembled.

I called Caspian yesterday about the squareish front, and they said that style is intended for use with compensators. They sent a "call tag" and UPS came by and picked up the first slide today. They're going to send me one with the beveled/rounded front. Very nice!

I actually carry my 35, and I hate seeing the exposed barrel coated with a 1/4" of lint (ok, it's not really a quarter inch thick).

Cool that it doesn't have the notch. That has been one of the holdups with me buying a 34 or 35. I guess it would be fine for a strictly competition gun, but it does make me a bit leery of carrying, but I know guys that carry them on duty with no problems.

To be honest, it's never caused me any problems either. It just bugs me seeing lint stuck to it, knowing it's a close tolerance working clearance.

Steve - Did you ever get your slide back from Caspian? Sure is taking a long time!!

Yeah, they've had it for a while, putting the stock "nose" on it. They also charged me $22 extra for that feature. I'm expecting it any day now. I'll post pics as soon as it shows up.
I noticed that the SS frames are available now. That might make a pretty interesting gun.
oooooohhhhh, shinny:thumbsup:

Fellows,
Just a quick note, the SS frame works well with the Caspian slide, these are first photos after fitting the two--I will be using Bo-Mar sights--right now a friend has it that has a much better bead blasting system than I do and is matching the slide to the frame--matt blast all over. As soon as I can I will show pics finished.

Steve - I'm getting very impatient!!! Where is your slide? What is Caspian's problem?? Are they always that slow??? I would like to order one too but cannot wait that long. Have you called them? They probably screwed up the front end on yours when rounding the corners and now have to make another.

Last week Caspian told me "They don't regularly put a stock front on Glock slides" and that it was kind of a special job. It was supposed to ship Monday or Tuesday (one or two days ago). So that means it should be here any time.
I really can't believe they've had it for this long. It shipped back to them on 4/25!

So I call Caspian today. Seth tells me they shipped my slide on 6/8 (last Friday) PLUS they shipped a second slide and billed me for it! So, when they show up here in a couple days, I get to send one back and get my $$ refunded for the extra slide.
Thank goodness I'm not in a hurry, am in a good mood, and can laugh about it.

Glock has designed their pistols to operate at a specific slide velocity. They cut the relief out on the 34 & 35 slides in order to maintain the same slide weight with the 17, 22, and 31 and use the same strength recoil spring. I bet you already know this. Why would you use this set-up for self defense with an unproven overall system just to keep the slide from collecting lint? You know the heavy slide will reduce the slide velocity. The magazine spring has to be adjusted to feed ammo with a certain slide velocity, also. I would not use this set-up for a CCW. That's just me though. You probably won't have a bit of trouble with it. I wish you well. You're going to have a very nice looking pistol. ATx

Austin,
As you noted, I'm no newbie. I won't carry it until putting a few thousand consecutive rounds downrange without a problem. I'm interested in comparing the slide weights too.

The best of luck to you. Zero defects, good to go.
Just want to see a picture of the new front.

So it allegedly shipped 6 days ago (last Friday). Didn't show up today (Thursday). Argh!

They came! One fits my slide rails so snugly I almost thought it wouldn't fit at all. The other is a bit looser, but has a couple minor cosmetic blems on the sides. I think I'll keep the looser one and send the tight one back. I'm sure to put more blems on it in the next few days anyway.
I'll try and post pics tomorrow or Sunday. The beveled front looks nice!

A few notes:
I ended up keeping the "tighter" of the two slides. I'll be sending back the other one to Caspian Monday, along with a request to reimburse my credit card for the second slide, which I never asked for. All in all, it only took 51 days round trip to get the bevel put on the front of the slide. [/sarcasm]
My stock Glock barrel fit just fine in the Caspian slide. My Barsto barrel didn't. I put some JB's bore paste on the interfering surfaces (sides of the barrel hood extension and corresponding surfaces on slide) and worked them together. Now they fit.
The rear sight groove is small. I had to nearly destroy a stock sight getting it in. I eventually took the metal base off a stock sight and stoned it down, and finally was able to pound it into place. Long term I'm going to put some different sights on it, but I need something on it for the next while, and I had used stock sights in my parts bag.
The slide backplate slot is narrow. I had to take the metal piece out of a stock back plate and take material off of both sides on a stone before it would slide into place.
The rest of the internal parts went in just fine. Caspian even supplied me with a channel liner at no additional cost. The Caspian slide has a decidedly different sounding "clink" to it when dry fired than a stock slide.
I'll let you know how it shoots, once I shoot it.

Steve - Thanks for the pictures and the update! Good luck with your new Caspian and hope it shoots as well as it looks!

I put a couple hundred rounds through the Caspian slide today. With the Barsto barrel I got a half dozen failures to feed. This was not surprising though, this barrel requires a shorter COL than the stock barrel and doesn't like the Berrys 180s very much. It functioned perfectly with my Montana Gold 165 JHP load (6.5 Unique).
With the stock barrel, I had two light strikes, but no other malfunctions. One was with some Winchester factory ammo of questionable age and treatment (dropped LEO factory round found on the range). The other was with a reload with a CCI500 primer. These ALWAYS light for me with the stock setup.
The Caspian slide setup provides a little less striker tip protrusion through the bolt face than the stock setup. There is also drag on the striker - it does not freely move fore and aft like the stock setup does.
Update:
After doing some investigation with a magic marker, it appears that the bottom of the striker tip hole isn't quite as low as it should be. So the bottom of the striker pin drags on the hole.
Also - the breech face is apparently a tad thicker than the stock breech face, as the firing pin doesn't protrude quite as far (I swapped the strikers back and forth.)

Steve that Caspian slide looks nice.
Even though you have had some minor problems, ought to be a winner when you get it Dialed in.
You didn't think it would be just a total drop in any way did you?
When you go to adding and changing things out, you run into minor snags.
You should have seen the changes I had to go through to put a V8 into my 80 Chevy PU when the 6cyl blew.
You are going through the same things.
Good Luck working out the "Bugs"
So far I have kept my 17L & 24 Stock.
Well changed out Mag release, and put on Hogue Grips.

I stoned down the bottom of the striker tip and then used some JB's bore paste and worked everything back and forth. Now the striker sticks out of the breechface without any hanging up - like the stock setup.
I just fired 100+ rounds through it, no probs at all. Now I've got to save up for some sights!

Another 120 rounds through the Caspian slide with stock barrel last night, no problems whatsoever.
