I have a few that need to be there. The 610 is on the short list, my daughters birthday is 6/10 and I am such a 10mm fan anyway. I had a nice 45 acp mountain gun at one time and didn't hang on to it hard enough so I need another one. Anything else???

Everyone needs a Model 10, preferrably a -2 (the classic gangster revolver) and a Model 19.

One time, I got a great deal on two Model 10s, both with 2 inch barrels. One was a square butt, one was a round butt. I actually bought one for the Chief I worked for at the time, gave him the choice and naturally, he took the round butt. I don't remember where the other one went, probably to some trade along the way, had a 2 inch 64 once too. I was a horrible trader in my younger days. If I had half of what I traded through, I would have guns running out my ears.

Hmm, I have a lot that I like and would recommend, but one stands out as a gun that a wide array of shooters enjoy shooting, which makes it a great revolver for teaching new shooters. Even though it is great for that it is also a sweet shooter for seasoned shooters.

It is a S&W 586 with a 6" barrel. This gun has a medium frame which fits many shooters and a full underlug barrel which helps to tame recoil. It's also nice to go all the way from tame .38 special rounds to hot .357 magnum rounds depending on the person or circumstance.

At least one J frame for the pocket when running out for milk etc.

I just happen to have a 6" 610 with a factory fitted 4" barrel for sale.

Give us more info, Bullman. Whatcha wanna do with it? Do you like the magnum calibers? .357s are great and highly shootable, .44 packs a punch, which I like, and the .41 can be just right.

You summed up my policy right there. I like magnums, though I think I really don't have much need for a 44. Had a redhawk once and my brother in law loaded up some really hot 180 grain hollow points. Kinda broke me of wanting a 44.

I also have a lot of liking for moon clip guns like the 45 ACP variety and of course, a 610

I like to shoot .44 mag in my large frame long barreled S&Ws (6.5" and 7.5") and a 6" Anaconda for that matter. The weight helps to soak up the recoil.

I also have a 29 Mountain Gun, which I like, but isn't nearly as user friendly as the bigger heavier guns. What's interesting though is that my 57 Mountain Gun (.41 magnum) is just right. It still packs a punch, but doesn't start to bother my hand after several cylinders full, like the same size 29.

So I like .41 Magnum quite a bit, but it is decidedly less popular and has less commercial loadings than its smaller and larger brothers. But hey, I like 10MM too and since I buy almost all of my ammo online, the popularity isn't as big of a factor to me.

Oh, let's see:

29 6.5" -3 or earlier (if you absolutely can't find a nice one for a decent price, then one of the new -10s will do).
19 4"
19 (or 66) 2.5" (just b/c they're cool)
686
640
649
625 (or 25) .45ACP
17 (or 617), just avoid the -2s alloy cylinder on the 617s
696 (purely from the collector point of view - have you seen the prices on these things lately? )
940 (another collector - getting expensive).

If you love the classic lines of old......then I'd say how 'bout a N Frame Model 21, 22, 24, 25, or even a Model 1917. These are all big bore guns without the blast and recoil of the big magnums. Of course then there is the Model 40, a squeeze cocker J Frame chambered in .38 Special.

I can't help but love the looks of these guns, but I suppose the trick is gonna be to locate them before they're all gone. (Hopefully they become full catalog items!)

I know what your saying there. I would really like to get my paws on one of those Thunder ranch Model22s in .45 ACP. Great looking gun. If I could score an old pre lock Model 22 that would be great too.

Hi Bullman,

Have you seen the S&W web site for this year? They currently have all the above models listed. I believe many are only available through particular dealers (such as Lew Horton for instance, i.e. special runs) though I'm not sure about that. What is particularly great is there are a few models with fixed sights Md 21, 22, 40, the 1917(old style front sight looks like half a nickel or something, and the 1917 has the lanyard ring as well as the 5" barrel I believe), some with adjustable sights Md 24 and 25; and then there are the finishes. Depending upon the model either blue steel, color-case hardened, and of course the old nickel. And of course good old fashioned hardwoods. (Though these are begging for ivories, stags, or any of the truly wonderful stock materials just like yesteryear.)

I've got the current Model TR22 by the way, and I think I'm falling in love all over again! Who says you can never recapture your youth? Sometimes I just feel like I'm Indiana Jones and all I need now is a swordsman!

I don't think you will find too many volunteers for that swordsman job, but I know what you mean. There is just something about a blued combat revolver that stirs the soul.

686 CS-1 a must have as they were made for the U.S. Customs Service

Model 10 has been in constant production in one form or another, longer than most any other firearm on the market, and is still in production today.

Model 19 Just look at a good specimen, they are a work of art, (and they shoot pretty good too.

686 In any barrel length, these are "THE" .357 to have. Rock solid and sweet triggers.

Any "N" frame

And as said before, a K 22.

Get a K frame. I've got a thing for them.

Used to have a 10, 13, 15, 17, and 18. Kept the 10, 13, and 17. The 4" barrel in a 22 (18) just felt a little too "whippy" for me. Same with the 15. I sold both of them to my brother who likes them well. I kept the 10 with a light barel because a .38 for 175.00 just can't be beat. It's a beater but fun to shoot.

I also have a 625. Great gun and lots of fun. I guess it just depends on what you like. But I will say that the 17 is the most fun. Who doesn't love a big heavy .22 with great sights.
