View Full Version : P45, PM9, MK9,,,,,, aaarrrggghhhh
I've been thinking about purchasing one of these but have run myself in circles trying to decide which to get.
P45: Like the caliber but there seems to be a lot of reported problems. Also, I see a lot of used ones for sale which makes me wonder.
PM9: Like the size and weight but ditto on the issues? However, it looks like the peening issue has been resolved if you go VC2 or greater on the serial number.
MK9: Like the size, ok with the weight, and they seem 99.99% reliable out of the box.
I'm leaning towards the MK9. Is this clearly the best of the 3 options (assuming pocket carry is not an issue)?
Thx
Just purchase my 1st Kahr (MK9) last month. Excellent right out of the box. 250 rnds and going strong without any problems. 100% satisfied... good luck
+1 on the MK9! So much that I just bought a second one ;)
Can't weigh in on the P45, but I do have a PM9 and an MK9. Although my PM9 is one of the good ones, I'd still lean toward my MK9 for durability and reliability. You said pocket carry was not an issue, so the MK9's extra weight wouldn't be that much of a factor for you.
Good luck!

If you want something small and 100% reliable, buy a CW9 or a P9.
I would love to pick up a PM9 someday, once I'm satisfied the issues have been resolved. But if I were to do it over again, I'd buy another CW9 in a heartbeat. 1,700 rounds, 100% reliable.
Has anyone heard of someone with a problematic P9 or CW9? I think one or two might have had P9 issues, but I'm not sure... :)

MK9-great carry piece. Conceals very well with OWB. Very accurate, no failures whatsoever.http://www.hunt101.com/img/376820.JPG
Of those three - the MK9 has the longest-running track record of problem-free service. If I was shopping for my first or only Kahr, I would start there or with a K9.
If I were serious about having a 45acp Kahr, I would lean toward the TP45 (until they bring out a "T45"} for "shootability" reasons.

What tatertot says is pretty much how my MK9 has been too.

ETA: I did change out the crappy stock recoil rod assembly (for a one piece unit) as it developed a bow, and I think it got a little bindy.
Go for the P45.... you will never look back
Just bought my tp45 and shot 200rds so far and have no problems what so ever i am just using fmj ammo , i'll try some jhp tomorrow just to make sure that she will not hiccup bec. thats what i usually load when i am carrying..What problems do some tp45 owners encountered??

Freeme,
Don't hold out for the T45. The words out of Justin Moon's mouth at the SHOT Show was that there would be no T45....
I know, I wanted one too. It seems the costs to ramp up production on an all steel 45 are too great.
I have 2 P45s -- one stainless and one DLC. With the exception of some mag follower replacements, both have been completely functional -- very accurate -- and have great triggers.

+1 for the MK9. I also have a PM9 as well as a K9 and T9. Of the 4 I've had the PM9 the longest and it has been 100% after the break-in period. If weight was not an issue, I would choose the MK9 over the PM9.
thats some good shooting..

TP45....300 rounds, no problems. Also feeds Speer LawMan 200gr "flying ashtray" fine.
I posted that you need to get the P45 but here is my story...

all 3 are fine guns, but if not for pocket carry, there are other guns you should consider (glock comes to mind)
