View Full Version : I have an aftermarket barrel question
I have found some related threads, but given the wealth of information here, searches yield dense results. I am interested in purchasing a barrel with a fully supported chamber. The catch is, I want one for CARRY, and not just target only. Bar-Sto is supposedly an excellent name as many of the guys at work have recommended them as have many of the older gentlemen who have much more knowledge than I. I am not worried about paying a few hundred dollars as cheap and nice are not synonymous. I am still learning about this as I go, but have decided that the (realistically small) extra margin of safety is worth it given I own a G23. Please enlighten me so that I can make a good decision myself, and also so I can explain this better to customers as I work at a gun shop/pistol range. Yes, I indeed draw much of what I tell my customers from this very forum and it has been very helpful and for that I am ever gracious.
Regards.
Additionally I should ask if changing the spring or using a compensated or ported barrel would be appropriate for carry purposes.
I'm happy with Lone Wolf's barrel in my G35. There is neither a need for a different spring or a ported barrel for carry.

Here's what I carry, all day, everyday -

It's a G-21; and, I got rid of the Scherer mag extensions in the following photos. I'm using Arredondo, now. Here's how I carry in, both, Wm. Tucker and Blade-Tech -

Been doing this since late 2003. You'll need a good gun belt; and, yeah, it's a Bar-Sto! (Semi-drop in that I fitted myself) ;)

Unless you plan on firing something incredibly hot, there's no need to increase the weight of the recoil spring. This said, I use a Wolff steel guide rod & standard (17#) spring. The only reason I'd increase this weight is if I wanted to shoot 45 Super in my 45 acp pistol. (Right now I don't!)
Thanks to those who replied and the PM! I wound up purchasing a Jarvis.
I doubt anyone cares, but to those who are interested, I have shot probably 1,000 rounds through my Jarvis of FMC and JHP, primarily Magtech 180gr FMC and Federal HST 180gr with some Golden Sabers, Gold Dot and DPX as well. Not one FTF, even after running a few hundred consecutive rounds. Mind you, I shoot clean ammo for multiple reasons and more for the sake of me, not the firearm itself.
In terms of accuracy, I am shooting tighter groups, but this may be attributable to the GlockMeister Tungsten Captured Guide Rod as much as the Jarvis barrel.
