What's your take on S&W's Performance Center guns? Do you like them, which ones do you own, what differences do you notice and do you feel they are worth the extra money?

Of course gun porn is always welcome.

I don't own any because they are far too expensive for me, but I have shot many of them. My favorites are the 952, 945, and DK 1911 in .38 Super. Excellent target pistols and very well made. I do not like the look of many of the revolvers versus the standard models, but some of them would make great competition pistols. For example, the 627 V-Comp. Others are no more accurate than the standard model revolvers. The Jerry Miculek (sp?) 625 in .45 ACP is very accurate with great sights and trigger, but I personally don't like the grips. They are designed for rapid fire so when that first round goes off, the gun snaps into your hand and doesn't move. The angle beats up your hand pretty bad after shooting 100 rounds of ball ammo. It does what it's designed to do though.

Are they worth it? I can only tell you that they are excellent guns, but they are very expensive. You can get an equal 1911 for the same or less money. You can also have a Model 29 or 27 or whatever tuned up they way you want it for less. I believe they are too expensive.

If you have questions about a particular model, I might be able to tell you about some of the special features.

I do not shoot well enough for expensive guns.

since im into wheelguns, id share a bit about my experience.

got myself a .357 magnum smithie model 627-5 (8shots) from the PC last Oct,06. it was a tough decision to make considering my choice between a 686P (7shots) and this.

call me crazy, but since i come from a far away land, considering shipping costs/handling etc. it fetched at around 95,000pesos (equivalent to USD$1,850++) and the reason why i still opted to chose it over the other was because of the advantage of an extra round in the cylinder. (not much to drool over from by pistoleros)

shoots real good, very acurate and feel & balance are all excellent. triggers are very smooth. finish is superb. even came with the metal case which is sweet. The Performance Center did a real good job.

Though i still believe there are many other reputable and reliable wheelgun makers out there but with what ive got is a treasure to keep...& to shoot.

good luck with yours! Id still say go for it. the extra few hundred dollars wont hurt much thinking how much your gun will go a long way.

I have a lot of Smith revolvers, semis and a couple of their 1911s. I wish I could afford one of their Performance 1911s. I held one and droolded over it but it was out of my line of price back then. Someday..

Over the past few years, I have purcased several PC pistols. The fit, finish and machine work have been excellent. I did have a couple warranty issues with PC guns, which were handled very promptly and to my satisfaction. I'm thinking about one of those 627-5s next.

I've got a couple of PC revolver and a few PC pistols. I won't try to speak for anyone else, but to me they were worth it. It is plain to see where the extra dollars were spent. Their tolerances are tighter, they often use unique features not found in the production guns, which cost more due to economies of scale. Their triggers are simply outstanding, each and every one.

I may get flammed for wanting this.....But I do. It'd be great for the barn/sheep corral at night time for them night time preditors and such. Also, just cuz it shows a revolver is just as adaptible, if not more due to using 2 cartridges, as a pistol.:)

I posted a thread asking for assistance with the photo posting in the Help Forum at the top of GT.

I think that's a pretty neat revolver. It sure would be useful to have around the farm/ranch at night.

Yeah they're on the pricey side but they do make some unique wheel guns. I think their quality has slipped on the newer ones.

My all time favorite wheel gun is the PC's K-Comp model which is a model 19 with a 3" comp barrel. Never had any problems or complaints with it. I wished that I got two of these.

On the other hand, the 627 was sent back to S&W to have them remove a big tool mark on the front sight ramp, had them replace the wood grip & rubber grip. The wood grip was basically an semifinished block of wood. The rubber grips didn't fit right. Still to this day, I don't know how I didn't catch all of that at the dealer. However, S&W does have great customer service.

I'm on the fence now regarding the PC's line. When you pay a premium price for something, you kind of expect the quality along with it out of the box.

I own several Smiths, but only one PC gun, a 945. Excellent trigger, fit and finish are perfect. Shoots way better than I can. Never had any problems with it. For the most part, people give them high marks and put them on par with pistols that cost 2 to 3 times as much.

I have a number of PC guns revolvers and semi autos. I think they are worth the extra money. My favorite revolver is my 10.5" 500 and my favorite auto loader is the 945 or 1911dk. they will always hold their value.

Are they worth it?

Absolutely, yes! I have Model 952-2. It's the finest pistol I've ever used. Everyone I let try it out at the range says the same thing. It is such a fine shooter, I feel like I'm cheating when I'm at the range.

Are they worth it? That remains to be seen.
Sure they are fine guns, but will they be worth something, someday?

I myself would rather buy something that is P&R'ed.
