View Full Version : Width difference in Grips
Can anyone tell me if the wood grips are thicker then the stock rubber ones on the K9 E03? I really like wood grips, and was thinking of going with the checkered ones. I've never handled a Kahr with wood grips. The gun fits my hands great now, and wouldn't really want much of a bigger grip just to have the wood grips. I really hate to spend 58.00+shipping to realize I made a mistake.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a MK40 and it is much thicker with the Wood Grips. The slide stop is almost flush with the grip.
FYI- I am allergic to the Kahr Wood Grips and don't use them any more. I've though about covering them in Polyurethane but just have not done it yet.
YMMV
Dang, I hate to hear that, your allery, and the thickness of the grips. They looked fairly substantial, that's why I asked. Oh well, I guess I'll just live with the rubber ones. Thank you sir for your response.

I have (or had, that is) the wood grips on my K9. I have measured both sets of grips (mounted) and the wood grips are 0.045" thicker than the rubber ones. Thats what - a little less than 3/64" difference? I wouldn't let that bother me.
I prefer the woods over rubber for concealment. I wish Kahr would bring back the hard nylon grips for the K9, because the wood ones are expensive and have an inherent weakness at the top-rear portion of the grip. They reinforce it with a glued-in metal backing, but the last 1/4" or so is still unsupported. That's the piece that broke off of my wood grip, and that's why I presently have the rubber grips back on. Unfortunately, with that portion broken off, it leaves some inner workings of the pistol exposed - which I am not comfortable with.
So - the bottom line, for now anyway, is that I recommend the wood grips for carry (the rubber ones tend to make shirt-tails ride up on the grip and/or cause a drag on presentation) - while acknowledging that they may need replacing or repairing after some time (mine lasted about a year and a half).
Me - I'm gonna try making my own hard grips from some other material. But I have the equipment and the experience to do so.
Thank you Sir. I saw your other post, and commented there also.
I assumed the wood grips were more thicker then you stated....I guess that was a bad assumption on my part. I too like wood grips over the "tacky" feeling rubber grips for the exact reasons you stated. They are nice for lots of shooting, but not so nice for carry.
I'll probably hold off of spending 60+ dollars right now for the grips, especially with the fact that they might not hold up.
I'd really like to see what you come up with, when you get some grips made up......You'll probably have a buyer right here with me, should you decide to start selling them.
Thanks again for the good info.
