I'm coming off shooting a G19 (among others). I think I'm ready to take the plunge on a G34 though. I know you guys are probably a bit biased, but does it feel unbalance and/or top heavy? Unfortunately, my local range doesn't have one available for rent. Once I shoot it, it'll be mine.

What were your first impressions on the long slides?

Friggin' Awesome!

Other guns feel like toys now.

They are a tad more top heavy than "standard" glocks, 17, 22, etc. But I like it, and I'm probably biased, as you noted.

I can relate with Steve K.

I've been shooting G35 since November 2006 and I recently shot a G22 and the 22 felt like a BB gun.

It certainly doesn't feel unbalanced. When I first shot one, it was perfectly balance. Now it may matter about your physical limitations but...COWBOY UP and get one!

G34 feels good in the hand, not unbalanced. A buddy of mine is a big G19 fan but covets the G34. They put a cutout in the G34 slide to keep its mass closer to the G17. The cutout is toward the forward end of the slide; that probably keeps it from feeling too muzzle heavy too. It's nice.

I have both the 34 and 35 (OD). The balance in my opinion is perfect as are the way they shoot. Get one or do like I did, got both. You'll love em.

A little nose heavy is perfect in a pistol. It all balances out as soon as you pull the trigger. I love my G24. I can answer your question by saying, only someone who has never fired one would ask this question. They are perfect. Empty, the balance is off. Insert a mag, and they are right on. If they were totally easy to carry, no one would carry anything else. Long is strong!

I have a 17L and in a word, no. The 17, 34, and 17L all have pretty similar slide weights as the long slides have material taken out of them. The longslides do position some of that weight a little more forward, but it does help reduce muzzle flip. I love my 17L.

Just remember the longslides have the same grip as the G17, which has a different feel than the G19 you like.

I haven't shot them head to head on the clock and for accuracy, but when handling them side by side, the 34 feels a bit more muzzle heavy than the 17 and doesn't sit in my hand as well.

Well I bit the bullet and picked up a G34. I'm very happy with the balance so far. With a full mag, it's verrry nice. With the mounted light, a bit off, but not enough for me to complain!

Nothing wrong with the balance of the long slide... I'm faster on target with the G17L then with the G17!

Two weeks ago I would have vehemently denied that the 34 is anyhting but perfect.

But after shooting a local match with my new 19, I have to admit that the compact does handle the "run-n-gun" stages with lots of really close targets a hair faster... and it's much more pleasant for the one-handed stages. But the 34 makes up for it when you've got a couple of 20+ yard targets mixed in. :)

Congratulations on your new long-slide. They're phenomenal guns.

I have to say that I switched back to the G17 for IDPA shooting. Target are close and I shoot the stages faster with the G17. The G34 was more accurate for the occasional long shots though.
