As I am doing an ongoing range report on my TP9 and have a PM9 pistol, I wondered about general comments about reliability of various models. Data would be valuable and if other owners could provide some info about the nature of malfuntions and the ammo that they observed to provide ignition/light strikes/ft-fire/smokestack or other malfunctions it would help us to understand actual reliability and whether it was due to ammo or at least if ther is a pattern. If you can briefly list the types of ammo you have run through the pistol, that may be of use also because it would show not only the ammo that malfuctioned but also the ammo that we used successfully w/o a malfunction.

This would include break-in period that we will arbitrarily set at 200 rounds.

Any one who posts should please

--ID their pistol model,
--the serial series,
--the approximate number of rounds fired at the malfuntion (if unknown then list that fact and possibly an approximation),
--total roundcount
--ammo type
--the type of failure.
--If the pistol required factory service, please indicate that as well as the outcome or repair.
--other types of ammo used

If at some later time you get additional malfunctions or require service, please go back and edit your original post.

Me first:

PM9
VA36XX
Unknown round count (over 300 at time of malfuntion;
current 500
Fiocchi 115gr fmj
Smokestack/1 malfuntion
No service
No repair
fmj ammo: WWB, Fiocchi, Magtech
HP ammo: Win Silvertips, Federal PD, Speer short barrel, SENTRY PD (copper slug)

TP9
YD13XX
Unknown round count- Factory testfire--(over 117 rounds at time of malfuntion);
current 192+
Fiocci 115 fmj
Lightstrike/2 back to back rounds both fired on second strike)
No Service
No repair
fmj ammo: WWB, Fiocchi
hp ammo: Win Silvertips, Federal PD, Speer short barrel PD

BTW, if there are any suggestions to the list, please let me know and I will edit this original post.

Please feel free to post previously owned pistols and omit data that you cannot recall or estimate.

thanks

I've carried my K40 Covert for two+ years now. My (good) friend carried it for about five or six years prior to that. Neither of us has ever had a FTF or FTE........ever.

Hard to believe? May be, but it's true.

Here's the run-down of the weapon:

- Model: K40 'Covert' - the all-metal model that preceded the 'MK' series ('MK'-size grips w/ full-length slide & barrel)

- #: OK10XX

- Round Count: Unknown round count through the gun - (no malfuntions - ever)

- Ammo used: *See Types of ammo fired below

- When Serviced: No Service

- Repairs needed: Front sight sheered off during a range-session (~ 1 year ago); ordered Mepro Night Sights from Kahr - after installation, target sighting has vastly improved.

Either way, as far as I know, it's only ever had the following ammo-types run through it:

- Remington Golden Saber .40 BJHP - 165gr

- Remington Golden Saber .40 BJHP - 180gr

- Blazer .40 TMJ - 165gr.

- Blazer .40 FMJ - 180gr.

- Winchester .40 FMJ - 180gr.

- Winchester .40 JHP - 180 gr.

- Speer Gold Dot .40 JHP - 165gr.

PM9
# VC6...
Since getting the gun back from Kahr, I've put about 600-700 rounds through it.

WWB 115 FMJ, 100 rounds with 4-5 hard primers--shot after two or three attempts.

WWB 147 JHP, 150 rounds with 3-4 hard primers--shot after two or three attempts.

Speer Gold dot 124gr, 100 no problems except hard recoil.

Federal 135gr Low-Recoil PD JHP, 50 rounds, no problems--recoil is so light that it's kinda worrisome (will it always cycle the gun well? what if it gets dirty?).

60 random rounds of good-but-old stuff (mostly law enforcement 147gr federal hydrashocks and cor-bon pow-r-balls) -- no problems.

UPDATE:
* Tonight I had 1 out of 50 rounds of Remington 147gr golden saber hollow points, do a nose-dive into the feed-ramp (which was dirty--hadn't been cleaned in 500 rounds). Light tap set it straight.
* I also had a round of remington 147gr GS HP or Federal 124gr hydrashock give me a FTF--dunno if this was limp wristing or a hard primer or what, because i just reset the trigger and shot it without thinking to look at the primer.

CW9
Serial YD
1000 rounds of UMC with approx. 20 failure to fire. Primer is dented and the round always goes off the 2nd time. I have to believe it is the UMC as I have put about 100 rounds of Gold Dot 124gr.SB without one problem.

Yeah, that's gotta be the UMC ammo. by the way, how snappy are those short barrel gold dots? i think the regular 124 (non +p) feel a bit too snappy, but i'm a priss about recoil (thanks to my p-22).

The short barrels are fine as far as recoil goes, there is also less "flash" than with the regular rounds.

The surprise was the 115gr Silvertips--they has quite a bit of recoil compared to all of the others.

If you're a priss you won't like them. They are a bit snappier but they don't bother me at all. I like the performance of Gold Dots and the accuracy is good. I run a box through every once in awhile but they are too expensive to practice extensively with. That's why I use the UMC.
