I'm just getting into reloading because i just recently bought a .50 AE DE. I was wondering if anybody out there might have tips, tricks or better yet a detailed list of what powder goes with what? I'm double checking everything before i get into anything. anything would be much appreciated!

If you want to reload lots of ammo in a reasonably small amount of time...get a progressive press. I use a RL550B Dillon press, and make 44 Magnum for my DE. I recently made a 'How To' about making 44 Magnum ammo for it...its just for people thinking about reloading like you..and its full of info on what is involved...which I think you will find interesting.

Look at it...HERE (http://p088.ezboard.com/fthedeserteaglefrm7.showMessage?topicID=352.topic)

Alternatively, to find out what goes with what, just look up the powders which are available in your area on the net....then find what bullets (projectiles) will work with those powders. Hornady makes a good 50AE projectile in 300gr I think.

You have to be careful with the DE because it needs jacketed projectiles because of the gas system.

hey thanks!! i sure appreciate the info. helps a lot! that dillon 550 is exactly what i was looking into. I was told that using a progressive press (being a beginner reloader) is kinda difficult. is that true? i consider myself very mechanical and pick on things fast. so i'm sure i can figure it out but is there anything about that press that i should know or would help me out?

My buddy has that press (Dillon 550)and he started out loading with it. It took a little while but he's never had a problem. Just take your time with it till you're used to it. Speer has bullets and H110 is THE powder to use. Get a good loading manual or 2 and look online for loads. Start with the beginning loads and work up. Good luck and HAVE FUN!

Its very easy to set the press up, the instructions are good, and if you need more info when setting up a caliber look at Dillon's website. They have a whole part that is dedicated to troubleshooting, although I haven't had any problems with mine in the 2 years I have had it. Any problems just post something in the desert eagle forum all the guys in there are great for info.

Have fun!

Sig.

there is a bit more involved with setting one up,but it's certainly not hard. If you are fairly onto it you'll be fine.

Progressive presses are a bit more expensive to buy but once you have the caliber set up....you can pump out ammo waaaay faster than a single stage press/ I'd rather be out shooting than reloading which is why i got a 550.

Ditto on the Dillon. I've never regretted getting mine.
