I am going to purchase a drop-in barrel to convert my 21C to 10mm for hunting. This will not be the main firearm I will be using while out on the hunt, just a back up or to be used if it's a close & clean shot. It will be used for whitetail deer and possibly hog.

I am torn between which conversion barrel to buy.

I've heard good things about KKM and Lone Wolf is selling the factory length barrel or the 6" barrel for $180. I have made purchases through Lone Wolf before and love their customer service.

TopGlock is selling the EFK drop-in for $150 factory length and $155 for the 6". I delt with TopGlock some time ago and service was meh... I haven't heard much about EFK barrels.

So, which barrel mfg? I really didn't find anything to sway me one way or the other after an in-depth search done over several days.

For those who have used a setup like this, factory or 6"? Common sense says that the longer barrel will have the greatest acurracy but ease of use is also a concern. Probably 75% of the time this setup will be used for hunting and the rest of the time will be for light range use or possible home defense. I'd like to think that everytime I'm done hunting or home from the range the .45acp factory barrel will go back in for around the house duty. What if I fall in love with the 10mm? Is the 6" barrel gonna be a pita for normal house carry? I guess I'm trying to figure what the trade off is between accuracy and ergonomics.

Which mfg and what barrel length? If I had the $ I would just buy a G20 with an extra 6" barrel but I don't have that kinda cash so I'm doing it this way.

:) If it were my G-21, I'd buy a quality 45 acp 6" aftermarket barrel, a Wolff steel guide rod, and an extra 22# spring.

Then instead of going the 10mm route, I'd choose 45 Super, instead. Same magazines, heavier bullets, similar velocities, and more knockdown power.

Here's mine. (Fitted with a muzzle-ported, 5 1/8" Bar-Sto Precision barrel, Wolff steel guide rod, and Arredondo mag extension.)

(At some point in time, I'd probably send this barrel off the a place like Mag-na-port to have two or three thin muzzle ports cut into the top of the barrel forward of the slide.) ;)

I considered the .45 Super but I don't have the time or the $ to get into reloading at the moment. A buddy gave me a single stage Hornady press about 8mo ago and I haven't even had the time to clean it up and see whats missing. Not to mention learning the reloading process. There isn't even that many different choices availible on the net from what I can see and it's all too much money.

I think I'd like to try the 10mm route just because the ammo is availible in quite a few places in my area.

Conversions to 10mm with G21's has been spotty in terms of reliability. Go the .45Super route. As mentioned, you can use the same mags and all you'll need is an aftermarket barrel with better casehead support, an s/s guiderod and #22lb. recoil spring(I prefer ISMI). There are several experienced handloaders that will roll it for you, if you want to explore that option, and you always have the option of shooting cheap, easy to find WWB, Remington UMC, etc. I'm a huge 10mm fan(surprise), but the .45Super's the way to go, as opposed to converting to 10mm. I love both rounds, but the 10mm has nothing on the Super.
