While I don't have my belt, holster, or snubby yet (all 3 have been ordered in the last 3 days), I will be carrying a S&W M&P 340 in .357 Magnum using a bullhide belt from the Beltman (www.thebeltman.net) in a Canute IWB from Ugly Bald Guy (www.ubgholsters.com). Hope this helps.

I carry my 442 in a DeSantis speed scabbard, OWB strong side. I recently purchased a Don Hume JIT and it fits well, also. I also have a holster from K&D Holsters which fits in my back pocket and I can unsnap it an carry it in another pocket. The backing on the back pocket set-up doesn't print.

Sounds like a really good setup. Jframes are like 1911s and glocks. There is so much different gear made for 'em. Great cary guns aren't they?

I've always been a semi-automatic kind of guy as I never really got into shooting the GP-100 that I bought on a whim because my dad really liked it. However, when I looked into acquiring my first true carry gun, I wanted something in a respectable caliber, small size, light weight, and most importantly, something that I could shoot well. I tried the Kahr MK9/PM9 series but went with the J-frame because of the better sights, .357 Magnum option (I'll carry the 135 grain Speer GDHP .38+P though), proven reliability, and overall shooting feel. The MK9 was really slippery in my hands and the grips were cheaply made. When my M&P 340 shows up, it'll be coming with me wherever I can legally carry it and I won't feel undergunned.

I carry my 340PD in a Nemesis pocket holster. I carry it in the holster for smaller autos. I don't like the J-frame holster. The way it is sewn makes the gun ride higher than I prefer. As the smaller auto holster does not a model specific trigger guard sewn in, it rides lower and conceals better for me.

Wow, where to start.....if the wife is carrying her snub, it's likely to be her 642 in one of her purse holsters. (Her P-32 always rides her slack pockets.) Though she will sometimes carry the 642 in a jacket or coat pocket weather permitting. If either of us are pocket carrying a J Frame it is likely as not in a Galco (roughcut out) Horsehide PH158, pocket holster or a Galco OWB Speed Master. Additionally we both have fanny pack holsters (several in leather and nylon) that can and have been used in appropriate settings, and Galco Belly Band holsters.

If you're allowing 3" K Frames, ;) her 3", Md 65-5LS is nearly always carried in a DeSantis 001 13 OWB, thumb break. This she usually reserves as a "field gun" though she used it once (was her car gun) to good effect in Wasilla, Alaska (of all places) to prevent her van being jacked, (at a minimum, as we have no idea what the two malcontents might else have wanted).

I have and use (all to some degree though some more often than others) a Bianchi #55L Lightning OWB for 2" J Frames. An old Bianchi #12 fleece lined, Ankle Holster with calf support strap. A FIST IWB UltraThin, and a Galco Royal Guard IWB.

And once again if you'll allow my 2 1/2" L Frame 296Ti, .44Special, I use a Ross OWB L Frame 2 1/2" leather holster. The gun belt I normally wear is also a Ross Lined belt with brass furnishings. Also depending upon our circumstances of dress, etc. we will either have Bianchi speed strips or speed loaders (usually HKS) with appropriate pouches, etc. Though in some limited applications I may use a dump pouch.

We have any number of J Frames that we can choose from though the most often used for CCW are either the 642, the 649, or the 637, and usually in that order. The carry load most likely used is Speer Gold Dot 135+P's. Some instances we might switch to either 158+P LSWCHP's, or Federal 110gr Personal Protection, HydraShoks. (Limited carry of 125gr JHP in .357Mag for the 649.) And if in the field there is no telling what load(s) we might be using. Everything from CCI snake shot, to .38 TargetHBWC, to full blown magnums (649 only).

To top it off we have an assortment (couple boxes) of holsters especially in kydex (like FOBUS) and nylon (Bianchi Accumold through Uncle Mike's) and odd leather gear to pick and choose from for rugged field use.

Phewww...........glad that's done!

Dave ;)

P.S. Forgot to add I also have a SigTac Jacket that sees a lot of use in cold weather. I've carried any number of the Snubs in it's included nylon holsters.

The Hume J.I.T. is a great holster for many guns, but especially for the snubby revos.

I've got a box full of seldom used holsters for my two hammerless and one full hammer, These days, I just drop it in a pocket and head out the door. Oh yeah, if I think of it, I might grab a single speed strip for a reload, but even that can be bothersome at times.

If I'm wearing an untucked shirt like a t-shirt then I use a IWB holster which carries the butt and just a bit of the trigger guard above the beltline. If I'm wearing a tucked in shirt I carry the holster pictured below. It carries with the top of the butt even with the beltline so that just a bit of shirt blouse conceals.

The grips are Uncle Mikes. Outlined the lapel pin on the grip, using a dremel with a very fine tip grinding wheel removed inside the outline just deep enough where the pin would be flush, then used GOOP to hold the pin in place. That one has been in there for close to 10 yrs. Wore the 649 in an ankle rig everyday when on the job so it took a beating but never came loose. You can see some of the scratches and dings on the pin.

I don't remember now. About 10 yrs ago I was on a military deployment to FL and stopped in a gun shop in Ft Walton Beach. The guy had a box of "Anything for $5" holsters. This one was new still in the package. I picked it up because it did ride lower than any I'd seen before. It was one of the major makers, ie, Bianchi, Safariland, Galco, just can't remember. I didn't keep the package and there's no name on it anywhere. Not only does it conceal really well with just a slightly bloused shirt but it's more comfortable because only the grip is at the beltline and not the thicker cylinder. Also, the clip doesn't ride over the cylinder so it rides thinner.
I talked to a buddy of mine who makes really nice holsters about doing one like it for a PPK/s. I've just got to take the PPK/s to him for a pattern. He or any holster maker who does the soft pocket type IWB should be able to make one for a J frame.

the smitty j frames are just WRONG not to carry. they are the best revolvers on the market IMO and they disappear now matter how you choose to carry them. I cant carry my glock without having my little j frame somewhere nearby... the 26 gets lonesome without the 642 (soon to be 637) :)

On duty as my BUG, my 637 rides in a Desantis Apache ankle holster. I use it off duty sometimes as well. When off duty, I also use a pocket holster made from an old Suede leather IWB holster. I removed the clip, recut the holster making a few modifications and it works great.

I carry my 3" 629 (no full length underlug) in an old modified DeSantis pancake holster. It was originally for a 4" but my friend is good with leather so he shortened it.

Anyway, it's pretty beat and I'm looking for a new rig. I'd prefer a paddle holster but I'm guessing I'm outta luck there.

Who makes a decent open top holster for a 3" .44 that won't make my wallet want to go and file a police report?

My first gun was a S&W model 10 with a two inch barrel. When I got a job, and carried a gun all the time, I needed the smallest, most dependable weapon I could find that would be invisible when I was wearing either a suit (day time) or sports clothes. I bought a Model 60 and carried that gun for years. I had a Bianchi IWB holster that clipped on my belt, but very often carried the revolver in a leather portfolio that went with me everywhere.

The model 60 was passed on to a younger officer and I now have the SW340PD and a model 637. Still use that same Bianchi holster, but I have a different leather portfolio.

I have tried lots and lots of other pistols, but I still find I trust the snub nose revolver the most.

how well do the j frames stay concealed in a front pocket when sitting down?
i was looking into getting a kel-tec but after looking at them at the store and looking at the ammo i might just go with a j-frame. i'm a little worried about concealing the j-frame in a front pocket when sitting down (church, restaurants, etc.).

Unless someone is looking for a gun, they will never notice it! My brother knows i carry almost always. I had my 642 in the front jeans pocket when he was near me, at least 4 weeks before I told him I had one. He was shocked that he never noticed! :-)

They are just made to carry well. My only complaint is... I want a Scandium frame one now.... the weight diff. is huge and it would just be so nice to carry such a light one!! To shoot it would be another story... but to carry every day.... sweet!
