To give you an update check out this thread (http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=658139&perpage=25&pagenumber=1).

Well, after speaking to Stephan and getting the promise of a pistol on Thursday I was pleasantly surprised when I received a call from my dealer stating that my pistol had showed up today.

First things first, I have to say that Mid America Arms in St. Louis is truly a pleasure to do business with. This is the third transfer I've done through them, and I am thoroughly impressed by their knowledge, professionalism and politeness. They are top notch!

I received the correct pistol that Stephan and I had discussed. A black P45 with night sights - Novak style rear. The pistol was packed with two magazines and a goofy trigger lock.

It was apparent that the gun had been fired, as it was pretty darn dirty...no worries there, after my last experience I'm just happy that they tested it before it went out.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/cbecker33/IMGP2297.jpg

The initial inspection looked good. There is minimal plastic "flash" at the rear of the frame where it meets the slide. There are two small casting flaws in the polymer frame, both are very hard to see and one will clean up, I suspect, with a sharp knife and a little effort.

The exterior of the slide is machined very well, no visible flaws and a good fit of the barrel and front sight. The rear sight does not fit in the dovetail nearly as well, as I can see daylight below it. The sight is secure with the set screw, but I will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't rattle off.

The slide release is really thick....it looks overdone. I can't believe how far it sticks out from the frame. The bottom edge is also a little too sharp. I will probably end up giving it a melt treatment. The bottom of the trigger is also very sharp. I will probably have to reshape it also to keep it from pinching my finger against the trigger guard while shooting.

The slide is pretty tough to pull back and I have a hard time getting the slide stop to engage. I mean a real hard time. And no, I'm not a sissy :tongueout: I'm hoping this will ease with a little break-in.

Pulling the slide off is a great deal easier than with my old K9. I don't need to use a block to properly align the slide to frame. I can simply use one hand to maneuver the slide and the other to push out the slide stop with the end of a toothbrush. The inside of the pistol looks dirty, but nicely done.

There is a fair amount of rubbing and an odd rainbow like finish toward the front of the slide.

The barrel hood is worn (along with the outside of the barrel itself), but it too looks pretty good.

The frame looks good also. There is some slight wear on the polymer frame rails, but I feel that this will stop soon as the slide begins to work against the steel inserts. The front of the frame does look bowed, but this does not seem to affect function and is not noticeable with the pistol assembled.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/cbecker33/IMGP2300.jpg

Overall I think that the pistol looks pretty darn good. It is a fantastic size for me. The action is smooth and the trigger is light and consistent. I do not find it to be too long of a trigger pull. The gun is nicely balanced and I have no troubles with the placement of the slide stop, just the distance it protrudes from the frame.

Here she is all cleaned and lubed.

I have high hopes for this pistol and will try to get out to shoot it this weekend. I will do a write-up then, too.

Been following your saga all along...so glad it (finally) has come to what appears to be a happy ending. They should have sent you two for what you went through!! Congrats on your new baby.

Thank you all the sentiment. I am happy with it so far; but, of course, I have not shot it. I will be sure let you know how it works out.

I don't feel like it is quite a saga, but it was a bit of a hassle. If the P45 works I think I will be a happy camper.

PS the mag is so close to fitting 7 rounds. I put the spring and follower in from an 8 rd CMC mag (for my 1911) and was able to put in 7 rds. Unfortunately, when hand cycling, it would not feed the 7th round fully, nor would it lock the slide back. I think someone with a little talent could easily make a thinner steel follower for the stock mag that would allow for the extra round!- Or, maybe a replacement spring with less coils would work......any ideas anyone?

I just hosted all of the photos here (http://www.photobucket.com).

Once I figured out where the macro button was on my camera, I just snapped away. Too bad the lighting sucked - it was a cloudy day...

Sure thing....

Host the pics on a pic-hosting website (click on here in my previous post and it will take you to a free site called photobucket).

Join the site. Then follow the pic:

Then simply paste the copied code in the message you are posting. Copy and paste each code for the pics you want to add. You can put in a bunch of pics that way.

I'm interesting in a P45. I read there were problems when the gun 1st came out.

Were your problems recent and what were they. I am leery, as we all are, of buying if I have to go through a lot of aggravation. Just trying to do my due diligence. All comments and help appreciated. Also curious as to price before tax.

IPSCshooter,
The answer your question would mean I'd be kind of hijacking this thread .... so I'll start a new one: "Why I sent my P45 back 2x"

I just got back from test shooting the P45. I had one failure to feed around round #40, then everything else was flawless. The failure to feed was probably my fault, the round had been hand cycled through the pistol about 5 times before I shot it and had developed a pretty good burr.

Additionally, my troubles engaging the slide stop have vanished. It seemed that it only needed a little break in time.

I shot a total of 163 rounds all FMJ. 100 WWB and 63 CCI Blazer Brass. I have to say I really like the little gun. The recoil is not too bad and I was able to put a follow up shot on target pretty quickly.

As far as accuracy goes, I couldn't tell you. We were shooting spinners and 10m and it was windy as hell. It is certainly more than acceptable for CCW.

I have to say that I am pretty darn pleased. I'm going to clean it up in a bit and see how it looks, but I think I have found a winner!

Chris - how would you describe the recoil, compared to the other Kahrs?

The only other Kahrs I have shot are my old K9 and my buddy's E9. Unfortunately that was so long ago that I can't make a comparison.

It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I could easily control it and I wasn't bruised or sore after my session. The only other thing we were shooting at the time was my brother's XD40 (4 inch barrel or so). It was more than that, but not bad at all.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

You know that your are firing a weapon but thats it. Recoil was a non issue for me when I owned my P45. It was very easy to shoot with the heavier 230gr. ammo, the lighter stuff made it more of a task to get double & triple tap groups. If you want one get it because you'll be satisfied.

By the way it was far less snappy than its little brother P40.

Trebla - would you say the sights were regulated for 230gr loads?
