Left last Sat. and the season opened Monday did a little fishin' and scoutin' till the opener!

We had a pretty good trip I killed the biggest bird of my life a 22 pound, 10" beard, 7/8" spurs.

Austin shot a 19 pounder with a nice beard also.

We caught about 8 or so Largemouth Bass out of farm ponds.

I should've killed my 1st bird with my new Ruger .22 WMR but I left it in camp feeling that most folk appreciate the callin' aspect of getting a Big Tom in close.

I'm entered in a contest on a local forum and just felt it'd look better done with a shotgun. I called him in from over 100 yards away when I first saw him to 42 yards (lasered after the shot) when a load of #4 Heavy Shot from my Browning 12 ga. dropped him like a bad habit.

I think I would've enjoyed taking him with the rifle more, cause once he was under 50 yards with the 3.5" 12 he was mine.

Me and my bass the one went 18" not bad for an extra bonus on a turkey hunt!

We're in Western West Virginia about 8 or 10 miles East of the Ohio River. The terrain is mostly rolling hills not steep like the most of WV.

Yes, that's a wingbone call around my neck!

That tree was planted by the guy who built the camp there in Mason Co. It's a White Birch mostly found up North or out West of the Miss.

Here's a pic of the tree beside the camp we hunt out of.

Nice bird. I took my son (8yrs old) out with me last weekend. First time out for him, second time for me. We called and heard one answer, so we hid in the thicket and called him in. We saw him about 100 yards out, puffed up, strutting, and coming at us. He went to our left and we lost sight of him behind the thick brush. I laid my shotgun through the fork of the tree and we kept calling him and waiting for him to come out into the clearing to our left. Well, next thing ya know, that Tom comes out about 15 yards from us, on our right. BUSTED!! He saw us and was gone. I couldn't get a shot off 'cause dummy me, I stuck that 28 inch barrel through the fork in the tree! Had fun though and enjoyed just being out there.

Don't worry cyprhertext we all have been taught lessons from them old gobblers. Just chalk it up as a lesson well learned and keep after them!

Better luck next time!
