View Full Version : Any reason NOT to round over the mag release on my PM9?
The sharp rear corners of the mag release are the only design details that do not make sense to me, but they look so intentionally made to be that way.
Before I file it down a little, can anyone give me a good reason to leave it like it is?

Unless it's broke, don't try to "fix" it.
I don't have any issues with my mag release, but that's not to say you don't have a real problem with yours personally.

Mine seems to be rounded on the edges, so it doesn't bite my thumb at all. My Sig, on the other hand, would chew a hole practically down to bone over the course of 2 days instruction. It took quite a bit of grinding (with a dremel, not a bench grinder, lol) to tame it down.
I would imagine that there are differences in the exact shape & sharpness of mag releases from one unit to the next; if it bites your thumb, grind it.

I double checked the mag release on my PM9 this morning and the edges are rounded as well. Is this a new or older PM9 Chris?
If you're really having issues with it and want to fix it yourself then do what Fastforty said, and use a dremel tool. Just go slow and easy of course.
You could also contact Dottie at Kahr and see if she could send you out a new mag release.

I assume you are talking about the mag release and not the SLIDE stop which is most peoples gripe about being sharp. I filed my mag release down and rounded it not becasue it was sharp, but because it stood too "tall" and at times my fingers would bump it and cause the mag to release.

Yes, the mag release is what I was asking about.
I'm not thinking of doing a very noticeable change, just enough to smooth it over some. The sharpness on mine was bugging me because my thumb occasionally rubbed it while shooting.
The slide stop has already met my Dremel but I can understand having it shaped that sturdily - a much more substantial design than the little one on my Glock.
I've already taken some sandpaper on a block to the mag release and it seems improved to me. This is without actually shooting it yet but it does seem like a good decision.

Here is what I did, hopefully the pics may help others.
The slide stop is big to allow it to be pulled out by hand (no tools) but it does benefit from some softening, in my opinion.
The mag release however needs some deburring, at least on mine.
This is my little guy now, it feels just right and works superbly.
