I know bullet design is very important, but between the 125gr Speer GD jhp that I have in my G31 now and the 147gr DT Speer GD what would be the balistic benifit of swicthing to the 147gr DT for my carry load if any?I'm very happy with the 125gr Speer GD from the 50rnds I put through my G31 at the range, they feed perfect and are very accurate, but I'm curious about those 147gr DT GD's.Has anyone out there tested DT's 147gr 357 Sig GD jhp?

I haven't used the 147 Gr. DTs in .357 SIG but I did use Hornady's 147 Gr. .357 SIG. I thought they were pretty accurate and the recoil was a little less then the 125 Gr. I believe with the heavier weight you would get more penitration.

I'm new to 357 Sig and thought only DT made 147gr 357 Sig ammo. Thanks for the info I'm going to try and find a box of those Hornady's and see how they shoot:thumbsup:

i got 10 boxes of hornaday 124gn XTP's its from there custom loads, i havent fired many but there were nice to shoot and very accurate, ill have to try some 147gns too. I think the XTP design would give a bit more penetration anyway due to its design.

Since virtually all .357 magnums are revolvers (not all, but just about) and all .357 Sigs are autos, then the '.vs.' is moot. The revolvers are harder to shoot fast and strait (at the same time), kick more for the same weight weapon, and hold less ammo, so well that settles the '.vs.'.

My only carry .357 is the 340 PD, cuase there is no .357 sig even close in size or weight (and it kicks a mite!) My Glock 32, on the other hand, kicks no where near what a M66 or M686 4 inch revolver kicks, and shooting fast it is so much easier to hit with.

The full size .357 magnum service guns had their day. Not saying they are junk or they won't do the deed, but the autos, like the .357 Sigs, are overall definatly superior for self defense.

Deaf I wasn't comparing 357 Sig to 357 magnum I was comparing 125gr 357 Sig to 147gr 357 Sig for a carry load in my G31.

MOHAA,

Cabelas always has the Hornady 147 Gr. .357 SIG ammo in the store. I was there yesterday and they had a good stock of it. Also you can order directly from Hornady (Best option). Their customer service is great and the lady who handles it is on the ball! I had one round were the case neck was cut to low and they shipped me 3 new boxes of ammo because of one round. I say that's good! Like I said the recoil is awesome. Very little felt recoil with these rounds.

Wish I could help ya, but the only loads I have are the 125gr Speer Gold Dot and 124gr Hornady XTP. The 357 SIG is good at doing light and fast and I prefer to keep it that way myself, although I have nothing negative to say about 147gr pills.

I'm going to stay with 125gr loads for carry, but I want to check out some 147gr just for the hell of it.

i ran some DT 125 and 147 through my g31. i also carried the factory gold dot 125 load. the DT 125 seemed a touch hotter then the factory 125 load. the 147 seemed a little less snappy then the factory speer load. all are good loads based on the terminal performance. i dont know which would have an advantage in hard barrier performance, but i would bet they are all pretty close.

I believe it to be North West of you. I take 476 South to 78 west. It's either 78 or 76. You should be able to pick up 476 North where you're at.
