View Full Version : just a bad box of WWB? Is that possible?

I posted about this 2 weeks ago and I still don't really understand it.

I used to shoot Blazer Brass and then switched to Winchester WB from Walmart. The WWB was fine for a couple weeks (one box per week) and then one day I had nothing but trouble, FTF and FTE's every 3rd or 4th round from the box I bought for that weekend. I shot all 100 rds and couldn't believe the problems I was having, but my shooting was good overall.

Afterward I cleaned and lubed the G19 more thoroughly than usual, then wondered if my grip technique wasn't causing the trouble.

Yesterday I shot Blazer Brass again and there was no problem except for once in a while ejecting straight back in my face. My shooting was good (for me). I don't think my handhold was really that much different. When I grip really tight I tend to shoot low.

Could that one box of WWB been bad? The casings did look a little marred or scratched up.

Sorry, it was 9 mm.

It could be any number of things. Maybe it was a bad box (or two) of ammo, or maybe your G-19 just doesn't like the WWB style of ammo. If the WWB ammo was giving you that much problems, then maybe just avoid using that brand of ammo and continue using the Blazer Brass.

Sorry, it was 9 mm. Few of us were talking about this after a long practice session yesterday and this came up. One of the wizened-ones mentioned that sometimes the 'run-to' excuse of limpwristing isn't strictly that; could be a firm grip, but milking the trigger. Good grip, shoot from the reset, etc. sometimes fixes alot of that, with 9mm being more susceptible to that than many others.

As to the WWB, I've won a few $$ (very few) at GSSF with both WWB and Blazer disposable. Others have used WWB with zero problems. But I just finished up "making brass" out of the last of the poorest lot of WWB I've ever shot. No huge major function issues, but inconsistency in load (BLAM! poofy-load BLAM! BLAM! poofy-load...); an issue I've never had with Blazer, ever, and I've bought both by the 1000's. But it'll be Blazer beer-can for me until the Dillon is up & running later this week.

I just have a sense that perhaps Win's QC has gone a little on the soft side. Big deal on the range? Nope; but when you've driven 10 hours & spend 100's of dollars on a match it is.

Just my impression. Is it possible? You bet.

I shot two earlier boxes of WWB in prior weeks and there was no problem. It was just that one box I had on one particular day.

When this happened to me,it were strictly my holding the pistol incorrectly.
And I was using a Glock each time.
Have to be extra conscious of this due to weakened hand and wrists.
